Okay this is going to sound crazy. But we have had our Dell computer for about 2 years. Sometimes it makes this noise like a door opening, and sometimes the door slams. What the heck is it? My dh and I have no idea. He told me to ask you all!

:) It is your instant messaging or buddy list on AOL. When someone logs on/off it does that.

I am not laughing....too much. My IM sound is a cat and my mother-in-law yelled at me once she figured out it was me "making that darn cat meow on her computer"

Okay but until recently I had never im someone. So I didn't even know that I had a list. Is everyone in my address book considered "on my list"? My dh was afraid someone was trying to hack into our computer LOL!

By Yjja123 on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - 08:53 pm:

Yes, your address book could be part of your buddy list. Look at your buddy list to see who is on it.

If you don't want windows messenger starting up, when you reboot your computer. Go to

Tools/Options/Preferences

Make sure "Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts" is unclicked.

Beth, although you were being serious...that was pretty funny! :) My yahoo messenger makes that sound. Look at your lower right hand side of your screen. Your messenger lists are down there. Has anyone used your computer?

If it's Yahoo Messenger, you can go into the preferences and tell it not to start with Windows, too. It would be a little smiley face, in your system tray (by the clock).
