Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2006: Update
By Boxzgrl on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 02:25 pm:

Just thought i'd give a little update since Nathan is 1 week old today:

Things are going really well. I've actually had him sleeping pretty much through the night the last 3 nights except for when I wake him for feedings. He's such a happy baby and easy to care for. The total opposite of Kaitlyn, or perhaps it's the patience i've acquired with age, lol! Kaitlyn is still doing really well with Nathan. I'm starting to feel like my normal self again. It's good to feel this way because I didn't realize how hormonal the pregnancy made me. I find myself being so much more lovey and cuddly with DH when throughout the pregnancy I just wanted my space and hated cuddling. I'm much happier overall and I think that has to do with not being so physically uncomfortable 24/7. So far i've lost 20 pounds... 16 more to go (though I know it takes time). DH is being a really big help with keeping Kaitlyn entertained so she doesn't feel left out. He helps with Nathan too but only as much as he can since i'm nursing. I had a few crying episodes after Nathan was born because I realized it will never be just Kaitlyn and I again but I guess that just comes with moving to the next step in life and expanding the family. I'm okay now though. I just make sure I still get one on one time with her so we don't lose our bond. And I still make time to cuddle with her on the couch. I think that's pretty much it. Things are going extremely well, better than I had hoped for. :)

Glad things are going so well. I remember after I went from 1 to 2 kids it was hard for a little while dividing up the time but once the youngest gets a little older it gets easier I promise. And once daddy can help more it will be even better.

I just have a question why do you wake him to eat? If he is sleeping and it not waking to eat why mess with him?

I am so happy for you! :)

Tonya, I had to do the same with Jen with she was an infant and I was breastfeeding. I was told to do that by the pediatrician, something about them getting enough nourishment when they are that young. But that was eons ago.........

Happy to hear things are going so well, Melissa. Looking forward to more pics soon. LOL

I never heard of that I was just curious so I figured I would ask. I never breastfed my kids so I am not sure on the differences of the 2 types of feedings.

Well, I seem to remember this and here it is:
"Because formula digests slower than breast milk, formula-fed babies usually need to eat less often than do breastfed babies."

I'm so glad you are feeling better and back to your old self again. :)

By Hlgmom on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - 09:23 pm:

Breast milk is easier digested therefore quicker to go throught the sysytem so breastfed babies need to eat sooner- I doubt she is waking him, but rather he is waking to eat and then going right back to sleep! :)

Congrats Melissa! I am glad things are going so well!

enjoy!

It's good to hear that everything is going so smoothly for you and your family!:)

I wake him to feed because it's recommended by the pediatrician and it also helps establish my milk supply (and keeps me from soaking the bed!!) and he usually falls right back to sleep while nursing for 15-20 minutes. Last night was another great night. A Mommy who gets her sleep makes for a VERY happy mommy, and in turn a happy baby. I'm glad he gets that concept, lol. :)
