Katie Couric

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2006: Katie Couric
By Ilovetom on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 09:21 am:

I feel like she has been a personal friend since my twins were born.

:)

Yeah, I feel that way, too! In the last 13 years, Gary has always worked some second shift hours and was often home in the morning. We often loved watching some piece of the Today Show, in the morning. We did watch the last 50 minutes today. I shed a few tears. At one point, I was like, "Don't cry Katie, so I don't cry!" The Harvey Fierstein(sp) song was funny. Matt was in the background just about splitting a gut, he was laughing so hard! I had just told Gary that I think Harvey is gay and then he keeps talking about getting it on with Matt! LOL! What a character.

I'm going to be the dissenting voice here. I haven't liked the Today Show since Jane Pauley left. She gave a feeling of sincerity. I think Katie Couric is conceited, self-promoting and way too overpaid. I also think that she is a very insensitive interviewer. She will ask the most intrusive questions, just to "get the scoop", at the expense of poor people who have just experienced horrible trauma or tragedy.

Ann Curry was in the running as a replacement for Katie, but was beat out by a Katie clone: Meredith Vierra. Ann Curry has a modesty and humility about her. A real sense of decency.

I also could never relate to Katie. I liked Jane also.

I really wish Ann would have gotten Katie's position. Not much of a fan of Meredith's either.

I did watch the "Katie Show" yesterday. Sometimes she was fun to watch, but i agree that she was sometimes insensitive in asking certain questions during interviews. But perhaps she HAD to ask those questions?

I'm not looking forward to seeing Merideth every morning. I guess i will be watching GMA a lot more now.

btw, i heard that Rosie Odonnell is taking Merideth's position on The View!
I liked Rosies show for a while but then she got annoying and sort of mean. She's a bit obnoxious. I'm wondering what this will do for "The View"'s ratings.

I can't stand Meredith Viera and I think she is an awful replacement. I personally liked Katie Couric, but even if I didn't, Meredith is STILL a terrible replacement IMO.

By Beth on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 08:25 am:

I really liked Ann Curry and suprised that they did not promote her. I hate when that kind of stuff happens. I really don't like the view and can't see my self watching Meredith Viera much. I actually don't really get to watch news in the morning anymore anyway.

I was hoping Ann would take Katie's place. But I don't think she is the image they want. She's not the "carefree, fun spirit" that they want. They think Meredith will give them that, I guess.

Yes, Rosie is taking Meredith's spot on the View. Wondering how that will work out. I'm sure she'll come on there with all of those that have been there forever trying to be center of attention, and it will be battle for center stage. Hmmmm... may be interesting to watch! teehee!

By Bellajoe on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 12:35 pm:

I agree Adena. I think Rosie will want all the attention, she's loud and obnoxious that way.
They definitely could have picked a better replacement.

I never thought Ann would get Katie's position, for the same reason that Adena said. I thought they would have Campbell Brown take her place instead.

By Hol on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 08:35 pm:

Campbell Brown, too, is a low key, lady-like person. Not enough pizzaz, I guess. I never watch The View. I can't stand any of the women on it, and I especially won't watch if Rosie will be on.

By Reds9298 on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 09:21 pm:

Ditto on the View...those women drive me nuts!

By Mommmie on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 10:10 pm:

The addition of Rosie will all but eliminate any opportunity for Elizabeth to get a word in edgewise.

I stopped watching Katie about a year ago when I switched to an all local news affiliate while I'm getting ready for work. I also grew tired of all the same fluff pieces over and over and over. It's like reading a Parenting magazine. Once you subscribed a year, you've read it all because then they start repeating. I'll check Katie out on CBS evening news though.
