Dogs and drinking water....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2006: Dogs and drinking water....

Who else has a spoiled pup? Or maybe mine's not spoiled...........but, she will only drink water if it's COLD - as in, has ice in it. I can fill her bowl with water and unless it has at least 12 ice cubes in it, she will walk right by it. Is this normal?? She will drink a lot if it's ice water, and occasionally, in the past, we would catch her drink out of the toilet if the ice had melted in her bowl, but I haven't seen her do that in quite a while. Does anyone else have a dog who clearly prefers ice water??

You do have a spoiled dog. No ice is required here. Granted we have been known to throw a few ice cubes in the water bowl. The dogs here will drink any type of water out of the water bowl, cold water, or water that has been sitting there.

Ditto Jackie. I had to just laugh as I sat here imagining the look on your dogs face after the ice was gone. What are you going to do as the summer just gets hotter and hotter? How long has your dog expected such royal treatment? I think this is just too funny.

We've done the ice thing when they fall on floor, but my dog could have cared less one way or the other.

Perhaps you should call the pet psychic (no clue on spelling that) to sit down and have a chat w/ your pooch to explain the ice is just a nice gesture on your part, but all other dogs drink it plain.

Okay, another question. On my dog board, someone people give their dogs bottled water, or filtered water. I'm one of the few who makes my dog drink tap water. Does anyone give their dog, special water?

Of course, for someone who is happy to drink toilet water, why would the dog care about bottled water? I think Jazz likes drinking out of the toilet, though, because it's colder than the water that is sitting around.

Our Lilo likes cold water too!!! We always fill her dish with water from the fridge (not bottled - refilled jugs) and she too waits for a refill before drinking but we don't have to put ice in it.

Kali has been this way ever since we got her from Jules. Not sure if Jules started the ice-in-the-water thing. But she gets tap water in her bowl! LOL
I had a friend who owned a very spoiled Shar-pei and he was given ONLY cold water from the bottled water dispenser. No way am I giving Kali bottled water.

But she really is funny about having to have her water icy cold to drink it. It's not a big deal for me, I was just wondering if anyone else had a dog who liked her water COLD.

I think Jasmine would prefer it cold. It would help us use up the ice cubes the fridge makes, but we never get around to using.

Some animal show made a comment that dogs drink from the toilet because it is cooler.

We all drink filtered water (animals included) and we do put ice in their bowl as they seem to prefer it. They will drink it regardless though.
