Where is your ideal/favorite vacation place?

I guess after Reading Bea's post this morning, it has me thinking. What is your favorite vacation place?
For me, its Disney World, hands down. Of course we are going on a cruise this August, and I am very excited about it. My kids love Disney as well, but they are looking forward to a different vacation on a cruise ship.

By Colette on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 09:40 am:

A secluded beach. I hate crowds or touristy type places.

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 10:37 am:

A cruise to anywhere in the Caribbean or on a beautiful beach!!!!!!

DH and I love going to Santa Barbara, CA or Monterey, CA. I just need to be close to the Pacific. I swear I have ocean blood running through my veins. I don't love tourist traps but I don't mind crowds and I don't need it to be a certain temperature while I'm there. Warm or cold, I just need to be able to see, hear, and smell the ocean.

My all time favorite vacation spot is Cancun!! We found a little family friendly secluded place and I would love to live there. LOL We have been there 4 times and I would go again tomorrow if it were up to me!!

I lived at Fort Ord, Tink, and Monterey, while a lovely place, isn't what I considered a beach area.....too cool and foggy. Most days we couldn't see the house next door, much less the ocean. I did love to hear the sea lions barking on the rocks though. We needed a fire and winter coats to watch the 4th of July fireworks. BRRRRRR.

By Bea on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 11:06 am:

Next I really want to see Australia.

By Boxzgrl on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 11:22 am:

The Virgin Islands.

Well, of the places we've been, we love Myrtle Beach. We love it with all the stuff to do and we are on the opposite end of the spectrum of most people: we love lots of people, and lots of buildings, and lots of touristy things to do. We would pick a resort type hotel over a cabin or beach house anyday. Now once the kids are older all that may change.

We also love Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg for a short weekend getaway for us. We have season passes to Dollywood and the water park, so we like to zip down there for the day or for the night throughout the summer.

We love the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Off Season.

By Tink on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 11:55 am:

Bea, I've spent my whole life around the Northern California coast. Rocky, foggy and cool is what I expect. It's a completely different experience from most "beach towns" but I love it for that. It's always a nice break from the 115 degree summers we have in this area.

We spend a lot of time in Tahoe, and is definitely the top choice for us. Tons of things to do and a great way to spend quality family time. It's ideal for us because it's just 4.5 hour drive.

For a further destination, we love Hawaii. We are looking forward to taking the kids in January!

By Kate on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 12:47 pm:

Maui. Followed by Disney. I agree with liking the busy resort hotels...the nicer the better!

By Sunny on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 - 01:12 pm:

I love Disney, but I don't know if I can say that it's my favorite. I have list of places I'd like to visit, but haven't yet. Maybe my favorite place is just is waiting for me to discover it. :)

I have been to St. Vincent twice, and I loved it. What I especially loved, other than the perfect climate, was living with the people who lived there, and experiencing a different lifestyle. I would love to do that all over the world. While I like nice hotels and some touristy stuff, I really prefer to meet the people and get to see a different way of life.

We loved Niagara Falls! This year we are going to South Dakota! 52 days and counting! LOL!

I guess I want to see all the big landmarks. I don't like crowds that much, but Niagara Falls wasn't that bad. Probably the worst crowd was walking back up to the hotel, after the Friday night fireworks.

We did the Maid of the Mist early on a Sunday morning, so we didn't have to wait that long and we weren't on the boat with that many people.

Clifton Hill, in Niagara Falls, was a "circus extraordinaire" on Saturday night, but it also was a 3-day weekend for the Canadians. That was crowded. I got separated from the rest of my family and couldn't get through the crowd to catch up. Fortunately, Gary noticed and stepped aside, so I could catch up.

There also was a park a ways down the road, away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds by that falls, that was very quiet, except for the occasional jet boat down in the river.

ANYWHERE in Italy...my favorite place in the whole world!!! The history, the scenery, the food, and the people are wonderful. Not to mention it's THE most romantic place in the world!

Here in the states, it's probably Disney World, without kids:)

The Virgin Islands, Bahamas, etc. just don't do it for me. There all pretty and all the same! LOL I'm also typically not into touristy and crowded, but still love Disney. (ALthough I've NEVER and will never go anytime other than the value season and that's because it's empty then and we love it!)

I'll let you know what my *favorite* is when I have been everywhere!!! :) (I can dream big if I want too.) ha

Out of the places I have been its hard to pick a favorite because there were different things I liked about each place?? I really like to go to ski resorts and attempt to ski and LOVE to watch my kids ski / board. BUT, I also LOVE to go to the beach - I liked the beach in Destin, FL very much.

Edisto Island, SC. :)

Hmm I have never been to the Carolinas I guess I should get there.

I have also never been to Colorado, so I am looking into that for this summer. I hear it is beautiful.
