Were the Early Votes or Absentee Ballots Revealed Ahead of Time??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Were the Early Votes or Absentee Ballots Revealed Ahead of Time??
By Kate on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 05:11 pm:

We don't have early voting here and frankly I'd never even heard of it until this board. I am assuming they are not allowed to reveal the results of any early voting until tonight, correct?? Have they even LOOKED at early vote results or absentee ballots until today??

By Vicki on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 05:15 pm:

They had to have done something with the absentee ballots because the girl in front of me in line today had a mess to deal with. They had her marked as already voting absentee, but she was swearing up and down she didn't.....

The votes are not counted until the end of the election day. Some say that may delay results here in Ohio because they have to count those, too. I'm sure they marked who sent in early ballots to prevent people from voting twice. They can do that without actually opening the ballot.

No... I called the Sup of Elections because there was a problem when I cast my ballot, and I did not feel confident my provisional ballot was going to be counted. The man I spoke to explained this to me, because I had the same question about early ballots. For us (with paper ballots here)hen they are cast, they are put in locked boxes, and stored in a secure area under supervision of the Sup of Elec. BY LAW, no ballots can be counted until election day. They record who sent in absentee ballots, and who signed in to vote early, to avoid duplicates, but they CANNOT see the actual votes. And Vicki, in that girl's case, they probably had her fill out a provisional ballot. They had me do so, because I still have a KS drivers license. They then verify the validity of the ballot against the registrations before tallying the votes, so in my case, they would verify my signature from my registration form, and count my vote as normal. (Can you tell from my posts tonight I'm really interested in the process? LOL!)
