IKE vs schools....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2008: IKE vs schools....
By Dramamamma on Thursday, September 18, 2008 - 10:41 pm:

Went to Brendan's website for his school district today and I was surprised to see that school is out AT LEAST until Thursday, September 25th.

I guess I just figured they would go back on Monday, guess other schools were hit harder than the one closest to my house.

That will be almost 2 weeks of school to make up at the end of the year. ugh...

LOl Christy, I was just about to post something similar.

My kids will start back on sept 29. This makes 2 and half weeks of missed school. We may or may not have to make it up. It is up to TEA. But i can tell you for the older kids there will be some serious catch up (like science fair deadlines, etc).

My 14 year dd and I were just discussing this. We are still in hurricane mode. I haven't returned home. I plan to do so tomorrow. I am going to the grocery store here, before I head home. Supplies are in such scarce supply near my house. Apparently eggs are a huge commodity. Plus there are restrictions on how much of what food you can get. We only have one store that has any perishables. So one of our churches is having a work day, and they wanted to do lunches, but couldn't figure out how to make 36 sandwiches, most of that is perishable food. But something like spaghetti makes going out to work tough. So that is just one of my shopping items for tomorrow.

My community is still on boil water. I don't really want to go home to that, but my hubby needs me I think :) Several of our students are still without electricity. Several of my close friends are in temporary living due to their house being unlivable. We were so blessed, but times are just so emotionally difficult.

Anyway, the conversation, was the rest of the world seems to be moving as normal, and we just aren't anywhere close. It has almost been a week post storm. CRAZY!
