Portable DVD Players

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2008: Portable DVD Players
By Reds9298 on Saturday, September 13, 2008 - 06:45 pm:

We will be taking a 10-hour car trip in the next few weeks. I'm breaking down and buying a car DVD player specifically for the trip. I'm shopping online mostly, since there's not much to choose from in our new town.

My question is - are all portable dvd players able to be mounted on the headrest? Do they all come with the ability to do that? They seem to really vary in price range. I DO NOT want to spend a lot on this...it won't be used very often at all.I also only need one monitor. I see some (more expensive ones) that come with a 'headrest mounting bag'. I'm really clueless on these.

Will all portables have what's needed to mount to the headrest? This is really just for this trip, so the headrest part is my main priority in choosing one.
Thanks!

No, not all portable dvd players will have the mount for your headrest. But you can buy an inexpensive dvd player and an inexpensive mount, separately.
Remember to purchase a car charger for it also.

Many of the cheaper ones I'm seeing seem to come with the car charger, but just don't mention anything about a mount. So I need to look for a mount as well. Thank you!

Ours came in a bag, and the bag strapped to the back of the front seat. I think we always had it plugged into the lighter.

ours has 2 moniters and mount to the headrest with 2 straps each.

Ours has one monitor, came with a car charger but no mount. I purchased a carry bag that turns into the headrest mount using straps. I got it at Wal Mart. The only problem is that the DVD player doesn't fit in the carry bag with the battery attached to it. It does fit inside the bag if we use the car charger.

Trina will state that it has to be secured or it can become a projectile in an accident.
We have all learned alot about car safety from Trina; so make sure it mounted securely. :)

My problem is the mounts! The only ones I'm really seeing online are the fold-out bags, which I don't really like. A few mounts I've seen on Amazon that look good aren't available...ones that are just a strap for the headrest without all the extra junk (baggage). Why is this a pain? I thought every kid on the planet had a portable dvd player except mine, so I had no idea it would be a pain!

Buy the bag mount and secure it with duct tape. Done.:)

I didn't think it would be a problem and we got our DD the one, with a carrycase that hooks to the back of the seat, AND I HATE IT! In hindsight, we should have to the top loading DVD with the two screens that go directly onto the back on the seat. Much better than the folding DVD players.

Or velcro.

We have two Zenith DVP615 models. They are excellent! We took them to FL on the plane with us and the kids were able to watch movies. It was great! You can buy a case that has a headrest mount. Ours is from Targus and is wonderful.
Enjoy your trip!

Can't she hold it on her lap?? That's what my two do.
