Stupid moment

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2008: Stupid moment
By Kaye on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 - 10:05 am:

Well what a funny day we had yesterday. Got up late, ate a big brunch, by 1 pm we were up and moving. Went out to the car, noticed things weren't right. Turns out we had "visitors" in our cars the night before. My van was unlocked, just an oversight. They took my cell phone (which won't hold a charge so it has to be plugged in to work..lol). But in car was also a set of keys to my hubbys car. Apparently the find of the keys excited them enough they left my car, went into his and throughly searched it. I only lost a cell phone, they left my d&b purse, cash, and a new ipod because they didn't really look. My hubby they took a cell phone and an old ipod.

Anyway, it wasn't a big deal. I had the piece of junk phone that we needed to replace anyway, hubby's phone was a work phone, and his ipod well...he can just use mine for now. But boy do i feel dumb. We live in a very safe area, most of us leave doors unlocked, sometimes even doors wide open for the back yard and the dogs. It does make me think twice now.

Yikes. Yeah, that's a good lesson for me, too. We get so relaxed in our neighborhoods. I'm so glad you didn't lose more than you did!

Sadly, it sounds like neighborhood kids to me. Every couple of years we will have a rash of car break-ins that sound a lot like yours and it always turns out to be young teens that live in the neighborhood. I'm glad they didn't take any of your "good" stuff.
