Algebra and my brain...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2008: Algebra and my brain...
By Conni on Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 11:05 pm:

Just spent 5 hrs working on 30 algebra probs...That was between, "Mom, what's for dinner?" "Mom, will you swim with me?" "Mom, will you check my homework?" " Mom, wanna play the Wii with me?" "Mom, can I out a chair in the office and watch you?" " Mom can you play basketball right now?"...and cooking dinner and doing laundry and getting trash out, dishes...

Wow...I'm tired. :( LOL

Going to crash hard tonight! :)

5 hours for homework? Yikes. The only thing I've been able to devote 5 hours to, is work.

Wow!!!

You should have seen me this week helping my 3rd grader with math. It has been way to long since I had this stuff. I had to get my 5th grader to help.

Is there a website you can go onto for help? I just found out there is a math website that both my boys can go onto to help them with their math homework. They can plug in their answers, and it will tell them if they are right or wrong. It also goes over the lessons if they need more help. I found out about it last night at open house.

Last night my 3rd grader had to memorize a poem. Unfortuantley, he forgot about it, and he had to recite it today. He also has a spelling test, and science test every Friday. I think this is way to much, but what do I know!

I am slow at the Algebra and will have to get some tutoring next week. I have forgotten some of the steps, etc.. (been too long) It's an online class and I am sort of teaching myself. Which in a way is nice, because I can go at my own pace. The reason it took 5 hrs though is because I am trying to do it while kids are home. I need to get it finished before kids get home or only work on it after they go to bed! Too many interruptions, otherwise! I have to say, they are being VERY helpful though. I also will be utilizing my crock pot for dinner A LOT more. :) So that dinner is ready when we get home.

Debbie, there is a website I do online homework on. It does give hints and walk you through problems. It's just that there are so many steps to each problem that it takes me a long time. lol My 16yr old will do his college algebra next year (when he is a senior), LUCKY!!!!! He is going to help me with more of my homework this weekend. :)

I have algebra online also. I wonder if it's the same lol! I did fine on my first quiz but the next part it's like the teacher assumes I know some of the more basic stuff when I could use a quick refresher. My mil took the math class before this one and still has her book so I'm going to check that out. Algebra is what I've been doing in my new found free time of all my kiddos being in school. The fun never stops around here lol!

I was never able to master algebra. My brain just doesn't go there. I always liked geometry better because I could SEE it. Algebra was too abstract for me.
It must be a "genetic defect" (LOL) because my two birth kids struggled with it as well. I had to get a tutor for DD. It must have clicked with her, eventually though, because she did very well in nursing school.

When I home schooled DS Shawn, I had to get a tutor to teach him algebra.

All the assignments in my classes this semester will be writing. A math class will be down the line a bit--maybe in a year or two. I think for my degree I only need basic math. Good luck to you two, Conni and Rayelle.

I LoooooooooooooooooVE algebra. If you have any ?'s just post them here and I'll try to get on and help!
And, get yourself a pedicure before you break down girl! LOL You're such a good mommy...

By Conni on Friday, August 29, 2008 - 06:36 pm:

Cat, I am taking English, Psych, and Microbiology. Are you in any of those classes? If so, maybe we can bounce questions/ideas off one another. :)

Rayelle, intro to business sounds fun...how is the statistics class?

Thanks Heidi!!! I will remember you love Algebra the next time I am stumped. As for the pedi...my sis and I went for margarita's and then for pedicures last week. I woke up the next morning with silvery blue nail polish on my toes and fingers?? hahaha um, and it's sparkly? Note to self: have sis double check my color choice's after Margarita.

By Cat on Friday, August 29, 2008 - 08:24 pm:

Nope. I'm taking Intro to Early Childhood Education and Child Growth and Development. Doubt anyone around here will have those classes! lol I may take English Comp I next semester, though. Math doesn't worry me. Writing doesn't really either, but writing the way teachers may want it does! lol I'm a good writer, good with grammar, but have my own unique style. Some teachers may not like it.

By Mrsheidi on Friday, August 29, 2008 - 10:43 pm:

Ok Conni, you seriously seriously made me giggle out loud! :) LOL!

Don't forget I'm a Biology major so if something is sticky, let me know! Good luck! You're taking ALL of my favorite classes!!

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 29, 2008 - 11:40 pm:

I want to take Microbiology again! I loved growing cultures!
