Ok, so I tried this facial waxing kit at home. It's the kind with strips that you just warm up with your hands, etc. So I followed the instructions, but when it came to the part about ripping off the strip.....I couldn't do it. So now what? Does anyone know if I can still get it done with someone on the same day or do I have to wait? How much is normal price for someone to do it? How painful is it going to be? (Can ya tell I'm a big chicken? lol)

Thanks ladies.

It's not very painful, it can sting a bit, but nothing major. I usually pay less than $10 to get my eyebrows waxed. I don't know about other facial waxing, but it's not expensive, it starts getting pricey with legs and body wax. I would hold off on doing it yourself until you have had it done a few times, I do my own now, and can do a better job than the salon, but I have had practice, and already know what it feels like, so I don't hesitate. If you decide to go it alone again, go to a beauty supply shop, like Sally's, and buy the microwave wax. I use a stripless wax, it hardens so you don't have to use a strip to pull it off. I don't know the name of it, but it's a small container, heats for about 30 seconds in the microwave, and works well.

I've been getting my eyebrows waxed since I was 16, with just a bit of plucking in between appointments. It does hurt a little the first few times but you will get used to it over time. As for waxing anywhere else, I don't know. I've never ventured that far. LOL Although the lady waxing my eyebrows convinced me to do my upper lip once. Ouch! That hurt sooo bad! I haven't done it since, and that was when I was 17!

In my opinion, brows don't really hurt at all. The upper lip hurts like all get out. LOL I have never done waxing on any other area. I too have tried those at home wax strips and never could get the things to work right. I now buy the Sally Hensen (sp?) facial cream remover and that works great. I buy the vanilla scented one.

I have my eyebrows done. I used to have my upper lip done, but I break out so I stopped. I just use one of those micro trimmers there.
I used to get my bikini waxed as well. Now, a hair remover cream is fine.
Like anything else, it really is just a matter of getting used to it.

I would be careful doing it again so soon. you loose a layer of skin by pulling that off. We had some girls in school that were practicing waxing on each other. The one did the other girls eyebrow and didn't' get it all so she did it again in the same spot and it tore the 2nd girls skin and she was bleeding. I will agree that it is very hard to wax your own eyebrows. But here is a tip to help keep the wax from ripping off your skin. Dip a q-tip or finger in baby power and trace the area you are going to place the wax. Also pull your skin tight in the opposite direction you are ripping the wax. RIP QUICKLY! its like a band-aid. The longer you take to rip it off the more it will hurt. and to help with the stinging, immediately apply pressure with your finger on the area and jiggle it. I don't know why but it seems to help.

I get my eyebrows sugared. It's like waxing but they say it doesn't hurt as much.
To me, it does not hurt much at all. I don't know how you do it yourself. I'd be afraid to pull to much out!

I have my eyebrows threaded. It is a little uncomfortable but it doesn't cause the redness or bumps that wax caused with my skin. In Chino Hills by the Stater Bros there is a salon that charges around 10 dollars for the threading and it takes about 10-15 minutes. HTH's

Vicki - Thank you for recommending the Sally Hansen facial hair remover creme. It is WONDERFUL! I can't believe, that in all of my sixty years, that I have never tried a hair removal cream. I have always waxed and plucked. It works great. I don't have a lot of facial hair, but what I do have is coming in white now and very coarse. (Better than the dark ones I used to get before menopause. LOL!)
I liked it so much, I went today and bought the Sally Hansen creme for legs. It, too, works great! I left it on the maximum time, ten minutes, and my legs are SO smooth! I have varicose veins, so I always had to be so careful about what razor I used. I sliced my vein open one night and it scared the bejeepers out of my boys. Blood was spurting everywhere. DH put a maxi pad over the cut as a tourniquet to get it to stop bleeding. Someone here, I think it was Dawn, told us about the Venus razor a few years ago. That has worked well because it doesn't cut my veins. However, you still have to shave, and the blades are expensive. I just put the creme on today, read the newspaper for ten minutes and washed it off. They say that the hair doesn't grow back as fast or as coarse. We'll see.

I do my lip at a salon. They use a wax that hardens like a piece of plastic very quickly. Then when she peels it off, I hardly feel it. So much better than my old place! It takes 3 minutes and it's about $7 at the new place, $12 at the old.

I just hate taking the time out to go and do it. My hair stylist recommended Nads - said it's expensive but it lasts forever. I've tried waxing strips at home and didn't like them, but have never bought the Nads.

I had my brows done once to get my shape, and haven't had since. I just pluck them. I'm a bit obsessed with them - I pluck constantly!LOL

You're welcome, glad it worked great for you too!

By Hol on Monday, September 1, 2008 - 09:32 pm:

I have read some really bad reviews about Nads. Some women have gotten what looked like chemical burns from the stuff.

What are/is Nads?
