I weighed myself....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2008: I weighed myself....
By Annie2 on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - 12:49 am:

which I never had to do before. I knew my body, etc.
People/friends have been commenting on my weight loss..I don't know what to do?
I've been drinking Ensure, taking vitamins, trying to eat...this whole thing is raising my stress levels.
I was small to begin (105 lbs) but I didn't realize how much weight I had lossed.
How does a person gain weight?

By Vicki on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 - 07:31 am:

When dd needed to gain some weight, they had me giving her as much fat as possible. Extra mayo on sandwhiches, extra butter on anything I could put butter on and things like that. Whole milk instead of 2% that she normally drank. They also said it was important for her to have a snack right before going to bed. Most nights she had a bowl of ice cream. They also told me to try to get her to drink slim fast or something like that WITH her meals as her beverage.

I am not sure if this is what they would have an adult do also as I am sure the fat wouldn't be that fantastic! Maybe make an appointment with a nutritionist and see what they have to say. That is who gave me the pointers for dd and we saw her every other month until dd gained enough.

Have you been to the doctor? If you haven't, you probably should to make sure it's not medical.

When my fil was dying and couldn't eat anymore, I used to make frappes w/ensure and ice cream to help him get more calories.

I would make an appointment with your doctor. That way you can get checked out before you do anything. Then, if it is just a matter of you needing to gain weight, they can talk to you about how to do that, or refer you to a nutritionist.

I am sure it is just all the stress you have been under, but I would get checked out anyway.

Ensure Plus has extra calories and protein.

I agree to see your doctor and perhaps a dietician.

Ditto. I lost 16 lbs. in 2006 due to a family issue/stress from that. I just couldn't eat, and when I did, it wasn't much. I would definitely see your PCP for a checkup to make sure everything is OK, then ask what to do from there.

(((HUGS)))) I ditto going to the dr. My ds had to gain weight and he drink mighty milk for kids. They make it for adults too, my dh drinks it when he's into going to the gym.

Thank you...I know it is not a medical issue. I am a stress-non eater; some people over eat when they are stressed.
I went to my dr in June. She was concerned but knows what I am going through and changed a Rx for me. She ran some blood tests, bp fine, heart rate fine.
Actually, with everything going on, I really haven't been paying attention to my weight loss. I know my appetite had changed but I left it at that.
I have taken steps to gain weight. I'm taking my vitamins, drinking my protein shakes, switched from skim to 2% milk, eating alot when I can, etc.
I eat healthy, just not enough on some days.
Plus I think i am transitioning from peri-menopause to menopause. I have had two hot flashes in the last month. On top of everything else. :)
Thanks again my cyber friends!

My mom drinks Ensure shakes along with her meals when she needs to gain weight. (Or she just quits smoking! LOL)

Annie, start working out with some weights to build muscle. Sadly, the first thing to go from non-eating is lean muscle mass. Try for three to four days per week. Also, go to GNC and ask for a recommendation for a good protein powder.
Yes, you can gain weight by eating lots of fat, but what you'll gain is fat and you will be very unhappy.
