A Mom Brag...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2008: A Mom Brag...
By Conni on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 11:43 am:

Some of you know my oldest ds (16 and going into 11th grade) played football from 4th grade through 10th grade...and was on the wrestling team for the last two years...decided he was not going to get a scholarship in either sport and made a huge decision in the spring. He tried out for cheerleading and made the varsity team. :) I cheered myself a few yrs and LOVE that he is doing this. It really is a fun sport. He and 4 other guys made the team. He is so big (over 6' now)and strong they love having him on the team to throw the fliers and catch them, etc... during the routines. He decided he would try going this route and see if he can get a scholarship. Plus the girls are just pretty cute. (per ds lol) Anyway, they have been practicing/working out everyday this summer, going to camps & competitions and working really hard...last weekend they went to Regionals, they won and are now going to state this Fall! :) If they win at state they go to Orlando, I think, for Nationals?

I am very proud and excited for them!!! :) Just wanted to brag a little. He has been looked at by three college coaches already!!! :) And they were awesome colleges I would be thrilled for him to attend. Please pray that this works out for him.

He is also working part time on a horse farm and worked in a corn field this week, harvesting. I come from farm families (all 4 sets of great grandparents farmed, both sets of grandparents farmed, my parents and uncles all farmed for years) so I am very happy he is learning how to work on a farm. It's a type of education like no other. lol His goal is to get his Bachelors Degree in Business Management.:) He has been saying this since 7th grade, so I think he is set on that.

I am very proud. Did I say that already? :)

How exciting! I will definitley keep my fingers crossed that he gets a scholarship!

When I was in high school, several years ago....several, several(LOL), two very popular boys decided to try out for cheerleading. It was definitely a first around our area. They both made it, and were actually very good.

Glad your ds decided to go for it, and is doing so well.

Wow, Conni, that's great. You are doing a great job!
A boy in my high school won a full scholarship to Villanova for cheerleading :)

I didn't even know they had college cheerleading and that you could get a scholarship for it.

You should be proud. Tell him congratulations from all of us!

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 11:19 am:

Oh, definitely college cheerleading. Football and basketball are HUGE in colleges. They would have to have cheerleaders! I guess I wasn't aware you could get scholarships for it, but it makes sense.

By Tayjar on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 12:56 pm:

Congratulations. I was friends with some male college cheerleaders when I was in college. Wow, were they strong. I hope he gets a scholarship!
