Hi! I have been missing you!Pandamama!
We are having a hot summer here in Japan, too. It goes up over 110F. Actually we are just back from our vacation and after being chilled out for a while I happilly discovered my name here!
We were staying at the cottage near the beach that my FIL owns for a week. Kids were so excited going on a beach almost every day. They are sooooo much into Hannah Montana now. Is it still so popular in US? We are always a few years behind you, hahahaha.
Did I tell you that I have something to do with KY??
Our kids' school starts in September here in Japan. I miss my kids free lunch with my friends....
I love to hear the your friends likes the purse I made. Now I am enjoying Hawaiian quilting . It is also fun to work on.
Yesssss,we are watching Olympic games, so happy to see Kosuke Kitajima got a gold medal.

I think Hannah Montana is still pretty hot here. All the back-to-school clothes and accessories have Hannah Montana options. (backpacks, lunch boxes, etc.)

By Crystal915 on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 10:21 am:

Hi Yumi!! Hannah Montana is DEFINITELY hot here, my DD (6) LOVES her, and got a Hannah Montana backpack this year. She loves to tell people "Her REAL name is Mylie Cyrus!!"

Where did you go on vacation? And WOW! 110F?! Is it very humid? We get to about 105F max during the summer, and so humid you can barely breathe.

You're a mini-celebrity here, because so many of us enjoy hearing about a foreign culture. :)

By Wahoo on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 08:20 pm:

Glad to know that we are NOT behind times about Hannah Montana now.(grin) My DD(10)and DS(7) always start to sing along he CD in the car. Now they are pretty good at reciting her songs.
We went to Chiba prefecture, that is where Tokyo Disneyland is located, beach side is 3 hours drive from here. The cottage is very old and small enough for me to clean up for the next visitor.I can not be a celebrity....
There they have a market every morning in that town that is one of the biggest market in japan and the farmers and fishermen come together to sell their fresh products. But now a days according to fuel price rising there were few fish sold there this time. They seem to have stopped going out for fishing as they used to.
Many of us changes to a smaller car for the less gasoline, we are one of them, do you have any idea to change your car to smaller one?
Maybe gasoline is more expencive here, 180yen/1 litter. us$6.27/gallon??

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 09:39 pm:

Gas is about $3.77/gallon around here. It had been $4.15. My car gets about 17 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway.

For longer trips, we usually use our diesel VW Passat, since it gets about 40 mpg with diesel.

By Wahoo on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 10:40 pm:

You mean Gas price got down in US??? My friend in philippines told their gas price is as high as ours and their salary is generally 1/10 as ours and yours. She said she sold her car and bought a motorcycle to go to work. We have a regulation for using diesel here. Our new car is 1300cc Honda Fit. I wonder if you call it the same way in US. I don't have any idea to caliculate mpg thing.LOL

Hi Yumi !!!! It is so nice to "see" you on here again !! Do you have relatives in Ky ( Kentucky) ? Seems like you may have told me that one time. I live in Tn, which borders some parts of Ky. It would be so fun to meet you, if you ever visited Ky.My car is a big car. I have wanted an older model Cadillac for a long time.Well, a few months back, we were able to get a tremendous deal on a '94 model. And, then of course, the gas prices went sky high !!!! But, it was a blessing from God (long, beautiful story)...so I know He will give me gas money to drive it :)

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 01:19 am:

To calculate mpg, fill up your car, and reset the mileage meter. Then drive around to your heart's content and when you fill up again, make a note of how much you put in your tank.

It's mileage divided by the number of gallons you put in your tank the second time.

Fill up
Reset mileage meter
Drive 600 miles
Fill up with 15 gallons (Or liters in your case!)

600 divided by 15 = 40mpg

You would just use liters and kilometers, instead of miles and gallons. (Why can't the US just go metric, too?)

Reset mileage meter again, if you want to do it again. I usually forget to reset my meter and then I have to wait until the next tank.

What are the regulations for diesel? We have Honda Fits here, too.

Honda Fit I think I've actually seen one, too.

Not the reletives in KY. but I have been there twice in my life. My host family used to live in Frankfort and their daughter is now in Alabama. I found her on the web and we made out a reunion in Alabama after a long time.
Hey Wanda, do any of your Grandkids love Hannah Montana, too?

By Wahoo on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 07:23 pm:

Dawnk777, I have not tried the way you shoewd to calliculate the mpg. But the brochure says it would get 20km/1litter on high way. I usually drive only in a town for dropping off and picking up the kids from their activities most of the weekdays after school, it would get 15km/1litter.WE really do not need a big car here.
Bt thank you for the lesson on mpg!

By Wandilu on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 10:48 pm:

Yumi, my 5 year old granddaughter LOVES her ! My dgd's name is Hannah. I took her to Mcdonald's one day, and this little boy about her age asked her if SHE was Hannah Montannah !!! They were so cute.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 10:57 pm:

Convertors

15km/liter = 35 miles/gallon

20km/liter = 47 miles/gallon

Those are better numbers than my car.

My car's numbers (1998 Ford Taurus):

26mpg = 11.5 km/liter
17mpg = 7.2 km/liter

Ugh. You make me want to get another car! LOL!

By Wahoo on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 07:00 am:

Wanda, say hello to your Hannah Montana from me, a Japanese fan! LOL
Is Hannah Montana popular for those ages like 5 years old? Really??
I do not know what season is now on air in US, but I found some video in You Tube and found her much more matured than herself in season1 DVDs that we own. I like the way her Dad talks, it reminds me of my host family Dad in KY. I love his southern accent.
Dawnk777. Thank you again for calliculating the above. Your gasoline might be mixed with olive oil! Because it is inexpensive than our gasoline and might be why your mpg is not as good as mine.LOL LOL joking..

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 11:16 am:

No, I just have a V6 engine and my car is big! My husband has a diesel VW and gets 40mpg or 17km/l.

I think 5 year olds can be big Hannah Montana fans, too. She is very big, over here.
