Bad storm in Sheboygan - we are fine

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2008: Bad storm in Sheboygan - we are fine

We had a tornado warning. Funnel cloud was seen in the next community to the west of us! (Kohler). It was a bit freaky. We did have heavy rain and some strong winds. In my neighborhood, we have branches down, some big/some small and lots of leaves, but all the trees are still standing. We have power. Our cars are intact. So, we are feeling lucky. They called the tornado warning about 3:45pm and by 4pm, it was cancelled. I have some storm pictures. Will post after supper.

Great news for you! That is so scary. The day before I had my hand surgery, we were in a tornado warning all afternoon. A funnel cloud passed right over Jen's work and into my direction. I was terrified, so I know how you must feel.

I'm glad you and your family are okay, Dawn.

So far, no people were hurt, but a few cars were damaged from trees falling on them. There were 2 fires, that I know of. Some people have big trees to get rid of. We just had a few branches.

I got a little scared, when they said there was a funnel cloud in Kohler and it was heading east! That's in our direction. Kohler is only about 3 miles west.

There's a link to the newspaper pictures, in the photo sharing thread. It's pretty obvious that my husband and one of the other photographers, were out on the road, in the thick of it. Gary took one of his pictures, from inside the car! LOL! I'm sure his scanner was going non-stop.

Supposed to get more thunderstorms, between today and Saturday. We are under a flood watch. I'm not in danger of flooding from a river, but when it rains too hard, we do get a little bit of water in our basement. Yesterday, we didn't, though.

It's cloudy out right now, but nothing looks scary, at this point.

Wow, that's scary!!! We haven't had any warnings since the tornado last month, which is weird because the month of June was back to back storms and warnings and watches, then almost nothing this month! Are tornadoes common in WI? Glad everyone is ok!!

Tornadoes are common in WI. Most of them aren't as close as this one was. It was actually about 5 miles west of us. The TV had said Kohler, but it was really 2 more miles west on the northern edge of Sheboygan Falls. It traveled about 1-1/2 miles before dissipating. So, it really didn't end up near my house anyway. So, I'm sure that the damage we got was more from straight-line winds.

Tornado Track Map 1950-2000

Look the path, by Port Washington. August 1964. I was almost 4-1/2 years old and definitely remember that one. The red paths in Sheboygan county, I think, happened before we moved there. It looks like they happen in central WI, a lot more than eastern WI.
