30th high school reunion

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2008: 30th high school reunion
By Dawnk777 on Monday, July 7, 2008 - 06:38 pm:

It's coming up in September! I graduated in 1978. How did 30 years go by so quickly? How did 10 years pass so quickly, since the 20th? I still can't list grandchildren on the information for the booklet, though, so that helps me feel younger yet! LOL! They've actually been having one, every 5 years, since we graduated. I've gone to every one of them, except for the 5th one. There are people I still enjoy talking to and catching up with.

Oh my!!! That means my 20th is coming up. I missed my 10yr reunion because dh's Grandfather passed away and we were out of town.

Have fun!!! Time does seem to go faster and faster the older we get, huh? :) How is that?

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 - 01:04 am:

LOL Have fun Dawn. 30 years is quite the accomplishment.

I have never been to a reunion. Next year would be my 20th. I have no idea if they have had any reunions thus far or not. My parents moved, my mom has remarried twice, and DH and I live in the next county (unlisted). So it would be very hard to find me, if they were looking.

I remember the names of very few people that I went to school with, honestly. I didn't socialize with very many people I graduated with. My Assistant Pastor and I graduated together, we attended church together for a year before his mom and I were chatting one day and I mentioned where I went to high school and she asked what year I graduated. Until then, he and I didn't even realize we had been in the same homeroom for three years. We discovered that we had been in a few other grades around Ohio at the same time too. Ironic, huh?

I am sure if we found out about a reunion we might go, it is likely Pastor D and his wife would want to tag along.

Maybe call your high school and see if they know. There was a long list of people that they can't find! One of them is a girl I hung out with in band and Girl Scouts. I'd love to see her again, but I have no clue where she'd be.

I went to my 10th and most likely i will be going to my 15th coming up on aug.23rd which speaking of i need to find the papers lol = )

By Rayelle on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 - 12:53 pm:

My tenth is in the fall but I haven't decided if I'm going. I keep up with the few people I like to know about. I only graduated with about 25 people.

By Tarable on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 - 01:04 pm:

My 15th is this fall but I won't go. I don't really care for anyone I graduated with except maybe 2 people that I keep in touch with anyway. My best friend in hs was a year younger than me so not like he will be there.

I do know that my old hs got in touch with me though classmates.com.

I just paid for 3 months of Classmates. LOL! It's just long enough to get past the reunion and then I'll let it lapse again. I just can't see paying for it, all the time.

By Brandy on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 - 08:16 pm:

most of your people are probably on myspace or facebook which are free...that's what i use and i've gotten in touch with a few people by doing that.

This year is 13 years for me. My friends and I all skipped our 10th. We all figured that the 5 of us would sit around and just talk to each other, there really is no one else I can think of that I want to see. Isn't that horrible! :) So apparently out of a class of 110 only 15 rsvp'd to the reunion so they just cancelled it.

Maybe we will think about going to the 20th. It would be interesting to see what people are up to after 20 years.

We live up the hill from a small park with pavilions. Last year we saw a group having their 50th high school reunion at that park, and the pavilion looked pretty full! Good for them they could actually get people after 50 years, and we couldn't get any after 10! LOL

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 - 09:45 am:

Bellajoe, I skipped my tenth grade year, also, so I don't go to my reunion because there is no one at it I'm friends with really!

By Paulas on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 - 10:09 am:

My 20th is next week. Only a few people I know are going but we will go. We're heading to PEI right afterwards so it's on the way anyway.

By Kaye on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 - 10:50 am:

Adenda, I read that as skipping her 10th reunion, not grade.

Why did you skip?

I went to a small school. We haven't had a reunion, because most people still see each other daily because they never got out of town. Next summer is 20, so there is some talk of a reunion, it is too far for me to want to go. I am actually driving to my "hometown" in a few weeks, it will be the first time I have been there in 10 years.

Okay, Class mates does work.. I registered there three days ago with a free profile. Today I got an email from my best friend from high school.. She had moved to Florida, right before Graduation. I guess her sister had talked her into going there to look for me, when I wasn't registered her sister talked her into registering just in case I showed up, and I sure enough did. We spent all evening catching up, it was odd, but so familiar. Hopefully we will be able to keep in touch, much easier with the Internet for sure. Many of us have managed for YEARS, right? LOL

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 09:44 am:

There are people who aren't on classmates, who I wish were on there!

By Karen~admin on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 10:25 am:

I have relocated several old friends through Classmates.........however that was before they started charging for everything. I actually just got an email through them from someone I haven't talked to/seen in over 30 years and read it and emailed him back. Yesterday I got notification I have another email from someone else, but I can't access it unless I *pay for it*. Still debating whether or not I want to do that.

I was unable to go to my 10th or 20th reunion (bedrest during pregnancy & emergency surgery), and to my knowledge, there wasn't a 30th in 2003, because I even started a thread about that on the site. So I've never been to a reunion either. And honestly, there are not too many people I'm interested in seeing, from my high school. My high school years were not *some of the best years of my life*. LOL

By Karen~admin on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 10:26 am:

BTW, have fun, Dawn!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 04:31 pm:

Mom's View Tip, 101, break up your email in your profile.. LOL That is how my friend found me. Neither of us paid for the service. She made contact with me directly.

By Tarable on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 05:09 pm:

LOL Bobbie.. that is how I used Classmates..

By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 05:14 pm:

If you have learned nothing from this site, you have learned how to break up and email address and put it in your post.

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 06:22 pm:

Ooops sorry! Guess she did mean her tenth reunion!

Kaye, I moved here in seventh grade and really didn't have friends that I cared about graduating with. I was pretty advanced in my studies because the school I went to in OH before I moved to VA was a much better school, and I had taken all the classes I needed to take. I was able to skip tenth grade and only go to summer school two summers and graduate a year early. I was more than happy to. I would have been bored to death my senior year if I hadn't because there were not many classes I had to take.

It all worked out, especially since I got pregnant at 16. Instead of being a junior in hs, I was a senior, and went straight to college after having my daughter.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 07:02 pm:

Bobbie, I just ran and did that! LOL! That never occurred to me!
