Any plans for the 4th?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2008: Any plans for the 4th?

Dh has a short day today so we're probably going to do something with the kids. What I don't know and it's cloudy and rainy so the local fireworks will likely be postponed.

We are having friends over after lunch. We are going to swim, and then we are all going to a minor league baseball game tonight. They have an awesome fireworks show after the game.

Going to my Aunts for a cook out. Supposed to bring a dish, can't decide what to bring, and I need to leave here by four. LOL Then we will likely be back in town in time for the fire works. The local county fair is this week and they go all out with the fire works.

Need to get off of here and decide what I am bringing, it is already 1, so my options are going to be limited.

nothing here dh has to work until 6 and I cant see driving to families which is a almost 2 hours away. We get there by 8 and then watch fireworks til 10 and then back home we will have spent most of the time driving. So we are staying home. they are having a big thing here in town for the kids Games and stuff and then a big firework display tonight. I made my Mom upset with us but its to late and I really don't want to be on the road at 10-11 at night with all the crazies out.

My mom and step-dad are taking the kids to our local parade downtown, then we'll go to the city picnic in the park. Tonight, we'll meet up with the rest of my family at my mom's along with my in-law's and my sister's fiance's family to BBQ, swim and light fireworks. We'll celebrate my youngest's birthday (on the 2nd) with cake, ice cream and presents. We do the same thing every year and we all love it!

Same thing we do every year... block party with the neighbors! :) Potluck style with a bounce house for the kids and a relaxing afternoon for the adults. At 9pm we have the perfect view (living on top of a hill) of two sets of fireworks so we'll watch those too.

Went to the parade, with my best friend's family and then over to their house for a cookout! We brought fruits and veggies and a dessert. They bought the meat and buns. Then we sat around and talked.

Going to a play about the Hmong people's history, then eat supper, and after that, go hang out on the Lake Michigan beach until the fireworks start.

We are just home for a little bit. We had to take the dog outside and put our food away. We need to stop at the store and buy some munchies for the beach later.

Local small town park before the great fireworks display. We're taking the 'bug box' to catch lightning bugs and a big ol' bowl of popcorn with some drinks to munch on in the back of the truck while we watch the show.

We ended up in the er with ds- I made a post about that and our fireworks got postponed until tomorrow. It's supposed to rain tomorrow too. :(

Well, on the third we went to neighbors house, had some drinks and watch fireworks from their front porch. The kids all got to do sparklers which was fun for them.

Yesterday we just had my mom over for some burgers and dogs etc. Watched "Independence Day" (it's dh's and my tradition) and then went to find our fireworks spot extra early to get a good spot. Backed the truck in and the kids layed in the back inside their sleeping bags (it was quite chilly) and we played a few card games before the fireworks started. They were actually pretty good and about 35 minutes long.

The Fourth of July is always a blast here. The day starts at 6:00 am for the men and older kids as they meet at the lake and launch all the boats. They stake out good spots on the beach with chairs and umbrellas. Around 9:00, the wives and younger kids show up. One of the local realty offices have the grills going, cooking up breakfast for the crowd. We spend the day boating, swimming, socializing. We all bring stuff to grill for dinner. When the sun starts to go down, we get on the boats and head out on the water to watch the fireworks display. It is a long, exhausting day that we all look forward to every year. :)

We were supposed to go to a birthday/4th party but the 4th part of it got cancelled so we ended up going to the park in the city over next to us. They had a free concert, a zydeco band (could have done without that one), The Eli Young Band (I like SOME of their music), and Tracy Byrd (AWESOME CONCERT).

My sister was having contractions the whole time we were there so we cut the fireworks a little short in trying to beat everyone out of the parking lot and watched while walking to the car. Ended up having them move a road block so we could get out of there quicker and made it to the hospital only to find out she has a UTI and that's what was causing the contractions and then were sent home. She's still dilated to 2cm.

It wasn't the Fourth we had planned but it was a good one, Tracy Byrd put on an awesome concert. The only thing that would have made it better was if Brendan hadn't been at his dad's house for the weekend and could have went with us, he loves concerts.

I'm glad your sister was okay. Probably better to get out of there, before everyone else, anyway, though.

By Kaye on Sunday, July 6, 2008 - 10:54 am:

We were out car shopping, then ended up at a friends in the heights. We walked to a nearby park to see the big city fireworks (chevy freedom or something like that). We had a very nice time.

4th of July is always the start of a depressing season for me. It was on the 4th that my mother got sick, then dxed with leukemia, she never came home from the hospital. So this year (11 years) I have decided to try to not get down this year. I am visiting her grave on the anniversary, which is only the 4th time I have been to the gravesite. But I am incorporating that into some fun stuff for my children.
