Pain in the neck

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2008: Pain in the neck
By Dramamamma on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 10:25 am:

I have a pain in the neck. It started yesterday morning and I assumed I slept wrong on it. Well as the day progressed it continued to get worse, last night it had me in tears. This morning I'm completely miserable every time I move my head even a slight bit I have excrutiacting pain radiating through my neck, down my back, into my head, and down my arm.

Being pregnant I'm not sure what they're going to be able to do. My OB is out of town so now I'm looking for another doctor to go and see. OR do you think a trip to the ER is a better option?

Typing this just hurt BAD, I'm in a lot of pain and in tears.

Your OB is out of town? Can you contact your primary care? I am thinking I would be taking a trip into the ER or Urgent care.

Might have a pinched nerve, might be something else. Need to have someone that might just know what they are doing take a look.

It does sound like a pinched nerve.. I would try to call my primary and if they can't get you in quickly I would definately go to either the er or urgent care whichever your insurance allows.

Ouch! Sounds painful. I'd seek medical care, however it works out for you. Good advice has already been given.

I called my primary care doctor and they were able to get me in within 20 minutes (that NEVER happens, so I lucked out). I showed up with my hair in a pony tail that Brendan put up for me and the shorts and tank top I slept in but I made it.

He says I have a pinched nerve and then probably pulled that muscle in the neck as well with sleeping wierd. He was great and searched through his medicine book until he found a low dosage muscle relaxer that you can take during pregnancy. It's not going to be a quick fix but should relieve some of the pain.

I've already been to the pharmacy and got it filled and about to take my first one and pray it helps somewhat.

Poor thing you. Hope it starts to work quickly. I like the fact that Brandan was able to put your hair in a pony tail. He has been the little big helper to you.

By Dramamamma on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 12:31 pm:

He is an awesome helper, I'm so thankful for him. My pony tail wasn't pretty but it was more than I could do.

Christy another thing you can do is get look up rice heating bag online. Basically you take rice and put it in like a pillowcase and you can heat it in the microwave. I found that the weight of the rice mixed with heat is very nice. You can buy these, but I think they are easy to make!

By Tarable on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 02:41 pm:

That is awesome! I am glad you are feeling some relief..

And ^5 to Brenden for helping you put your hair up. On a much different note.. sometime you should try to teach him how to really do it. Not just for your sake but for his own... I guess it is weird the things we need to know as an adult. My hair was a total mess after my surgery when my DH had to do it.. I was mean and made him redo it until he got it right.

Funny how things happen huh?

I'm so sorry you are hurting! I hope the muscle relaxer will help.

Did your doctor happen to mention alternating heat and ice on your neck? When I went to physical therapy for neck problems, the therapist said putting ice on the area would help decrease the swelling which would help decrease the pain. He suggested putting water in those little dixie cups, freezing them and apply them directly on the spot that is painful. It helped me a lot.

I hope you are feeling better very soon. Neck pain is so awful.

I also went through that when I was pregnant I used to spray Kool N Fit on it. It really works and hubby uses it alot. I can't find it in stores buy I purchase it online it works very well. My aunt has arthritis real bad and she said it works great for that .
