Aggrivated at the pump....

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2008: Aggrivated at the pump....
By Tarable on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 10:53 pm:

Okay my dh went to fill my car up with gas today and couldn't fill it all the way up (18 gal.) because it cost more than $60 and the station he went to has a $60 limit in gas.
Sorry but this got on my nerves since he was filling my car up so my mom would have something to drive to take my dds around.
How can they keep raising the prices and not up how much they will allow you to spend?
AHHH... how annoying.

oh I can related .. it cost me a 167 dollars to fill up my truck at 450 a gallon ( calif) it holds 40 gallons but put in 37 gallons ... but i had to swipe the card three times to fill it ggrrrrrrrrr

Is it a $60 dollar limit in gas, or is he using a debit card, which most gas stations have some kind of limit on and you have to swipe it for a second transaction after $50 or $60 for debit, and then I think $75 for credit? You would think they would raise that amount given the current state of things.

I have never encountered a limit on how much I can spend. When I am filling up my escalade it is around $85 and I am always able to do it with my debit or credit card. That would be very frustrating to have to do several transactions just to fill up!!

I read that some gas stations will have difficulty with the high prices. Many pumps won't allow a sale past $99 and it isn't unlikely for that to be a fill up price. I think it was mostly mom and pop type gas stations the article referred to and that if they can afford it some were gettting new pumps but many can't.

Gas has gone up between $.40 and $.50 a gallon in my area in the last 2 weeks alone. We are up to nearly $4.00 a gallon, and just a few weeks ago I was paying $3.30. It makes me ill to spend *only* $40 to fill my small gas tank. I really don't see how you guys with SUVs, large vehicles or trucks can afford to put gas in them! :-) I can't imagine spending over $150 to fill up a vehicle. OUCH!

So far, no limits or gas rationing here. It will be interesting to see what happens after June 1, which is the start of hurricane season. I really don't look forward to the situation at the pumps when/if a storm heads this way. It's always a nasty scenario in the first place, lines and stations running out of fuel, but with the prices and possible limits, the thought of what it will be like makes me cringe.

I am actually thankful for my 11 y/o, paint-challenged, dented-bumper, paid-for Honda Accord that gets about 25 MPG city and 31 MPG highway at this point! LOL

Rayelle, there's a problem with the older pumps, in that they won't accomodate prices higher than $3.99 per gallon. Wonder what those businesses will do to get around that?

By Joy~bundles on Friday, May 16, 2008 - 11:20 am:

For the older pumps (mom & pop-type places), I heard they might have to start selling by the 1/2 gallon to get around the issue with their pumps not going higher than $3.99/gallon. :(

It's it crazy. I saw $1.31 a litre here the other day which is $4.95/gallon. I'm glad we live near the US and can get it for $4. It is only going to get worse as the summer goes on too :(

By Kaye on Saturday, May 17, 2008 - 09:16 am:

Actually the gas cap on price is 99 dollars. It has to do with the pumps, but it has always been that way. We just never noticed because most cars don't take that much. But I have several friends with large trucks and they have been complaining about that for a long time. It really has to do with theft, people can't pump and run with more that 100 bucks.
