Can You Monitor Credit Reports for a Minor Child?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2008: Can You Monitor Credit Reports for a Minor Child?
By Anonymous on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 - 11:18 am:

I'm having major concerns that ex-DH may be considering taking out credit for himself under our minor DS's name, without mine or DS's knowledge. Ex-DH has gotten himself into several financial messes, and it's always been my fear that he would try to do this to our DS (ex-DH's mother pulled this stunt on her daughter {ex-DH's sister} when ex-DH was growing up).

Is it possible to monitor a minor child's Credit, even though DS doesn't, and shouldn't, have any credit under his own name? :(

I believe so. Call one of the major credit companies and explain the situation. They should be able to tell you what your rights are as well as what your son's rights are.

Yes, you can!
If they actually have a report than someone has tried to get credit in their name.
