Walmart....ughhhh...a vent

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2008: Walmart....ughhhh...a vent
By Annie2 on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 05:29 am:

I hate shopping at Walmart but sometimes I have to go there. I went today with my 12 year old dd. We spent about $60 bucks. We bought stuff for her field trip and some other items.
We dropped off the things for my 14 dd to put away then we went to her softball game. When we came home we couldn't find a few items and 14 dd didn't see them at all when putting items away. We were missing a bag with Ritz crackers, two thank you cards, Q-tips,gum and mints.
I called the store about 8:00. Customer service said they had the bag but I needed to come in with my slip to pick it up. Well, 16 dd was at friend's house. She said she would stop by the store to pick it up. I called the store back and explained the situation and they said "this time...only" would they release the merchandise without a sales slip. My goodness, who else is calling about a missing bag with these specific items!
DD was dropped at the house by her boyfriend and he went back to get the bag. He would drop it off in the am when he picks up dd for school. He called me to say that they had put the items back into stock and he wanted to know what thank you cards I had picked out.
I was so mad. I had just spoken to the store and they said they had the items! I called them back and gave the lady a piece of my mind. She said she hadn't spoken to me; someone else took my call.
Anyway, just wanted to vent about wally-world!

I've forgotten bags there, too. :( It's those darn revolving bag dispenser things. Now I always double check to make sure I have everything.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 08:06 am:

I can see where it would be easy to miss a bag, with the revolving thingie! It hasn't happened to us, but I worry about it sometimes.

I can't believe they put everything back, even after you called to say you'd be in to pick it up. How nice of the boyfriend to track everything down again.

By Karen~admin on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 08:19 am:

Ditto Trina RE: the revolving bag things - I've left a bag behind more than once. It ticks me off!

Just as bad for that kind of stuff is Winn Dixie - the area where they (literally!) toss the groceries, etc. has a spot near the credit card machine that items get caught under and they never check to be sure they've gotten everything. I've learned the hard way to look there AND to pat down any bags that are in the bagging area before I leave with my cart. Ditto for Wal Mart - I pat down the bags before I leave now.

Sorry you had to deal with that.

By Dandjmom on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 08:36 am:

Funny ( not really) that you have a compliant about Wal Mart, my aunt called me last night also she had a issue with them and there green dot card and pre-paid Visa, it's a long story so I wont' go into details, but lets just say that Wal Mart's employees dont' understand the program thereselfs or either she was just given some bad information. That left iwth with two separate cards and 280+ dollars out of pocket and she can't use the money for a full 2 weeks. So she is hoping that her rebate check does come so that she can take care of what she needs to.

By Tayjar on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 10:03 am:

I despise Wal-Mart. Sounds like DD has a nice boyfriend, though. Thoughtful kid. I hope your day goes better.

By Karen~admin on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 11:46 am:

Dora, I do too! The only way I can get DH into a Wal Mart is if he knows he'll be getting a pretzel as we leave. Seriously! Just like a kid.............

By Conni on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 04:58 pm:

Well, I love Wal-Mart. lol But they pay my bills and I have good medical and dental coverage for now. :)

I forgot a ball the other day and went back for it. The girl at the register didn't need my rcpt and she had shoved it in under the counter and saved it for me. About 2 weeks ago, I left a bag full of stuff at the register and the lady chased me down in the parking lot with it!!

I'd speak to the manager of that store and if you are STILL not satisfied, remind him that this was a rare occassion for you to shop there and it was not a positive experience. Ask him him to turn it into a POSITIVE experience or you want to talk to his General Manager and escalate from there. ; )

That is ignorant they restocked the items YOU PAID FOR???

By Bellajoe on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 10:37 am:

That is ridiculous. I can not stand Wal Mart. I only go there if its the most convenient place to where I happen to be.

Ours smells weird too when you walk in. It's probably because of the food they sell there.
I never understood why these stores sell popcorn and pretzels, etc.
Just to get you to spend more money I suppose.

I can't believe they reshelved the stuff that you paid for!!

DD's boyfriend sounds very nice.

By Happynerdmom on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 11:52 am:

Ugh. How frustrating. I actually love my Wal-Mart. It is new, and the employees actually seem kind and competent, LOL. I wish it were closer so I could do my weekly grocery shopping there. I always save so much money. But, with gas prices, I'm not sure it's actually saving that much to drive that much farther.

By Imamommyx4 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 12:38 pm:

I like Wal-mart for certain things, but I absolutely despise their pharmacy. EVERY single time I take prescriptions in for my mom, they say to come back in 3 hours. It took a week one time to get a prescription filled and I called every day. The day I finally got it, the district manager answered the phone and he said it would be ready in an hour. And guess what? It WASN'T!! I got there and waited another hour and a half.

But the store in general aggravates me because they move things around so often just to make you look and find other things to buy. As if the $200 of stuff in my buggy isn't enough.

By Tonya on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 01:11 pm:

I have to say I love Wal-Mart too because they pay our bills as well. DH runs the warehouse that ships the stuff to Wal-mart and Sams clubs in our area.

But even then I still love Walmart. I have to say I always check when I shop to make sure I have all my bags no matter what store. We have a super Walmart here so I can do all of my shopping in one store. Plus right now outdoor garden stuff too.

By Yjja123 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 01:34 pm:

I HATE Walmart. I try to avoid it as much as possible. It is a dirty store with rude employees.
I do most of my shopping at Super Target.
I have found that, with the shops that have the revolving bag thing, I double check that I have everything. I hate going back to get my missing stuff!

By Jackie on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 01:49 pm:

Wow, so many people hating Walmart. I love our Super Walmart. I dont go as often as I would like, as it is not close by. I would say it is is an individual store thing. I do not think all Walmart stores are dirty, and I do not think all Walmart stores have rude employees. I have encountered more rude employees at my local grocery story then at Walmart.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 02:36 pm:

The difference between Walmart and Target, though, is that Walmart has the Hanes or Fruit of the Loom socks, which last longer than the Target brand socks. So, I always end up buying socks and underwear at Walmart, because I want the name-brand stuff.

By Yjja123 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 02:49 pm:

I didn't know that about Target. I do not buy clothing items at Target. I buy those at department stores.
Yes, Jackie, I am sure each store is different.
My friend swears by one in another town but it isn't worth the drive for me.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 11:50 pm:

In a 10-mile radius of where I live, I have access to 3, count 'em, 3 Super Walmarts. I live in a town of 51,000. We now have one on the north side and the south side, plus the one that is about 10 miles west of here! Think we are saturated enough?

Folks on the north end, tried to protest, but in the end Walmart won, anyway.

Just how greedy are Sam Walton's kids?

Counting Sheboygan, and several small communities that are nearby, the population is 71,998, so really not THAT big.

By Karen~admin on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 06:11 am:

Debbie, I have heard that about their pharmacy from SO many people!

DD just switched to Wal Mart pharmacy for her B.C. pills because she has no coverage for contraceptives on her insurance plan. She said she practically needed an act of Congress to get the prescription from them.

Others that I know have the same complaint. DH wanted me to look into them when they started this $4.00 prescription thing, since our monthly copays for prescriptions are about $500 (yes, that is WITH insurance). They only offered one drug that we needed, it only costs us $5.00 @ CVS, and after hearing the horror stories about Wal Mart pharmacy, I will NEVER go there for meds.

I will admit that SOMETIMES the Super Wal Mart has good produce, and as an alternative to Sams, some things are probably just as cheap. I hate their meat.

I prefer clothes from Target as opposed to Wal Mart, I have found them to be of better quality for the most part.

And mostly I hate the employees and the entire check-out process. Where we live, the employees are rude, totally lazy, ignorant....I could go on and on. They never open enough registers, there is ALWAYS a line that is at least 30-40 minutes long, and if you don't further alienate the casher by checking the entire bagging area before you leave, odds are you will leave without some of the stuff you just paid for.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 07:59 am:

Karen, I share your gripe about not enough registers open and it's so annoying, when they have so many registers, and don't use them!

By Luvn29 on Friday, May 9, 2008 - 08:03 am:

Guess we are very lucky! I do hate having to go in there because it is so BIG, but we haven't had a problem with rude employees. If anything, they are TOO friendly and take forever getting people through the line. There are a couple of incompetent cashiers who are so slow and act like they have forever to bag your stuff, but we know who they are and avoid their checkout!

Of course, ours is a new super walmart, so it hasn't had time to get dirty like Yvonne mentioned. We also have absolutely no problem with prescriptions. They are always ready at the time I request them when I call in my prescription. And if I drop it off, it's always ready within 20 minutes.

We have no other store around here besides Kmart and I refuse to go into that store for anything. It's horrible. They have one check out open, no prices on anything, they rarely give you the sale prices without having to "present your case", their aisles are so messy, and you cannot find anything. Most of the time, they don't even have advertised items.

And as far as groceries, we save too much money shopping there to go anywhere else, even though I'd rather go to a regular grocery store. However, we hate their meat, and only buy meat at a local grocer.

We have almost left a bag, but so far, the cashiers always check before we leave to make sure we got them all.

Now, all of that being said, I do have my complaints with them, and have voiced them to the managers. If they restocked my items, I would have been livid and you can guarantee I would have been speaking with management!
