Birth control

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2008: Birth control

I have been taking the Depo shot since my dd was January 2004 & I want to find something else.
I have thought about having a tubal or having my dh have the "Big V", but just found out our insurance won't cover either. Well they will cover a tubal if it is medically necessary, think they will buy that it is medically necessary for me in order to NOT have another baby. LOL.
I have thought about having an IUD put in, but I am still a little concerned because I know that they weren't the best when they first came out.
I am just wondering if there is a method that I could research that any of you swear by.
TIA

I am on the pill and that works for me but 3 of my friends have IUDs and love them. Actually one just had hers removed and got pregnant the first month (they were trying to) but they all love it. One of the friends that has the IUD is a Doctor and would never do anything to put herself at risk. She said that they are extremely safe. Plus they last for like 5 years before you have to replace it.

the pill or the iud. I think there is an IUD called Mirena or somehting like that, the dr recommended that to me. I was on the depo shot for a few years and i didn't realize until after I came off of it how it affected me. (I was angry all the time it seemed).

I got essure a few months ago and my ins covered it as just an office copay because they did it in the office..

http://www.essure.com/
I don't know how to or have the time to figure out the link.

It is wonderful! they checked it out about 3 months later and everything is in place and right so I don't have to take anymore birth control pills! woo hoo!

Good luck!

Well, I have my tubes tied, but I still use birth control to help with my endometriosis. I used the nuva ring for several months and loved it because you put it in and leave it for three weeks and then take it out to have a period. I had to stop using it due to some complications (which isn't unusual for me).

Now I'm on Yaz and I LOVE it! I have a terrible time with my periods, and Yaz has controlled my pms symptoms and my period symptoms. I have a terrible time with being short tempered and easily agitated around that time, and for the last two months since being on Yaz, I have had no problems at all. And my period used to put me in bed for at least two days because of cramps and fatigue, and now NOTHING! I should be starting anytime now and I can't even tell it.

I was on Yaz for a year to control endo, and liked it.

We just use contraceptive foam! Used to use condoms, too, but somewhere along the line, we stopped and haven't gone back.

I guess it's working, since it's been 16 years since we had a baby, and at nearly 50, I really wouldn't be amused by a positive pregnancy test!

Thank you all so much for you suggestions.
I have my annual in June & will do some research & then talk to my doctor about my choices.
I do see that only one doctor in town does the essure procedure.
