Can our DSD who is 20yrs old but lives at home and we claimed her as our depended get the rebate??? I thought I had read where she would NOT get it BUT she says she will be getting it..Someone said they saw it in the paper where if you are over 17 and someone else claimed you you could still get it because you are over 17? I did check the IRS website but she WONT beleive me!
Whats the deal????

Our tax man said we wouldn't get money for 18yo Sarah, since we couldn't get the child credit for her anymore. That ended when she turned 17.

She hasn't had a job yet, so she couldn't get one for herself.

Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households. To receive a payment, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return. IRS will take care of the rest. Eligible people will receive up to $600 ($1,200 for married couples), and parents will receive an additional $300 for each eligible child younger than 17. Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage workers who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year in order to receive a stimulus payment.

Cathy, did she file a tax return? That's the first step. The second step, of course, is for your daughter to check the IRS website herself. If that doesn't satisfy her, she can call the office of your congressional representative - she'll probably get an answer more quickly there than if she calls the IRS.

By the way, since she is now over 19, you can only claim her as a dependant if she was a full-time student and did not provide over half of her own support. But, given that you took her as a dependant/deduction, I am assuming you know that and she met the qualifiers.
