Pregnancy food?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2008: Pregnancy food?
By Anonymous on Sunday, March 2, 2008 - 02:54 pm:

My DH and I have been trying for another child for many months now and, although I'm supposed to wait for my period to come (this Friday or so), I completely threw up my breakfast this morning out of the blue. (So hard, my eyes have broken blood vessels all around them...it's gross.)

Soooo...I think I'm pregnant! :) (What a way to find out though!) LOL I've been known to miscarry so we really need your prayers.

Anyway, I've been able to keep crackers down, but what else would you recommend eating? I just had some Greek yogurt and that's staying down. I'm afraid to eat! :(

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, March 2, 2008 - 02:56 pm:

Maybe stick with the brat diet - bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.

Will keep you in my prayers and sending you baby vibes!

I don't really have any advice for you besides the crackers. When I was pregnant with ds, I carried saltines around for months, LOL!

Prayers that things go well....

popscicles and Icee's were my best friends during pg. Really the cold and sweet helpped settle my tummy and then I could eat a few bites of other stuff.

Good luck!

During both of my pregnancies, I threw up ALL 9 months :(
I actually did well with bagels and gingerale. On days I could keep nothing down, those I could count on.
Crackers never settled my stomach.
Another strange thing I craved and didn't get sick on---watermelon.
Good luck!!!!

No advice here really....like Yvonne, I threw up the entire time I carried Jen. I did find, that first thing in the morning, hot, SWEET tea was very easy on my stomach. It came up anyway, but was much better than bile. TMI, I know, but it *might* help.

The crackers never did anything for me.

Good luck! And if you ARE pregnant, come out of the closet so we can *properly* congratulate you! LOL

I hope you are pregnant and things go well! What a way to find out like you said! With my last I was sick the entire time it was awful. It was so much worse right from the beginning than the other 2 and I was throwing up before I was even late. I did the cracker and ginger ale thing. It really helped once I got to the doctor. He gave me rx vitamins that helped quell the nausea.

Thanks for all the advice on food. It made me hungry again! I actually had some pork quesadillas today and kept them down. I took a home pregnancy test and it said "Not Pregnant", but maybe it's too early. I haven't thrown up since I was pregnant with my last one and I just "feel" pregnant.
I have a headache now too and I forgot what to take while pregnant. I forgot A LOT! LOL

And, sorry Karen, it might be a few months before I let anyone know! But, don't worry, I will shout it to the 4 corners of the earth! :)

Foods for pregnancy= anything that will stay down!

A lot of the stuff has already been mentioned. Oddly enough, I couldn't keep anything down but cheetos and carbonated drinks. Rocky road ice cream was a favorite, too. I was sick all 9 months with ds #1 and 8 months with ds#2 (he was early).

Other stuff for nausea that I tried were mint tea, chamomille tea, and ice.

Karen- I agree! Better sweet than bile.

Oh, one more thing. Tylenol is the safest for headaches during pregnancy.

I was sick during the first trimester, with Sarah and only one time, with Emily.

I was super sick as well, and my Dr. said to eat anything that sounded good, and not to worry about nutrition right now. ((HUG))

By Breann on Monday, March 3, 2008 - 06:29 pm:

I am 20 weeks right now, and still throwing up almost daily. It has been terrible this time around.
I have found that chilled fruit feels good to me, and I usually keep it down. I also make a lot of jello.
My doctor gave me a prescription for Zofran. It is miraculous. I couldn't have survived the past few months without it.

By Karen~admin on Monday, March 3, 2008 - 07:42 pm:

Breann, I use Zofran too, it's a miracle drug. :-)

By Ginny~moderator on Monday, March 3, 2008 - 09:27 pm:

Zofran sounds wonderful and I sure wish it had been around when I was pregnant with my first - almost 4 months of morning sickness! But, Anon, if you think you may be pregnant, go see your doctor. And in the meantime, use the BRAT diet and don't take any medications without talking to your doctor first, except your daily vitamin pill if you take vitamins (and if you're pregnant - and I hope you are as you've been TTC - you'll soon be taking lots of vitamins).

Root beer! The good kind! IBC is the best for me (in the bottles), but A&W and Barq's worked, too. It's supposed to soothe upset stomachs, and it works for me even now when for nausea. I even use it when I am car sick.

By the way, I found that when I was pregnant, I kept down foods that were not typical when I couldn't keep down anything else. Sometimes when nothing else worked, I could eat spicy mexican and do well with that. When pregant, it's a lot of trial and error. But just remember, regardless of whether you are going to throw up, you need to eat anyhow to give that baby all the nutrients it can get. I threw up the entire time, all day long, with both pregnancies! In fact, with my daughter, I was a senior in high school. Since I knew I would throw up immediately after eating, I would eat my lunch, take my tray to the kitchen, and go immediately to the restroom so I didn't take the chance on throwing up in the cafeteria! Since VERY FEW people at the time knew I was pregant, a rumor that I was bulimic circulated! I guess it would have seemed that way!
