Injured Dog Help

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2008: Injured Dog Help
By Tonya on Monday, February 11, 2008 - 07:57 pm:

OK my dog is injured. He has an absess(sp?) on his rear paw. I took him to the vet they lanced it cleaned it and put some kindof drying compound on it then wrapped it very tightly. It stayed on it for 5 days then i took it off the vet told me it looked really good and he was 99% sure that would heal it. But if not then he would have to put him under and stitch it (costing $500 minimum). Well it looked really good for about a week and not it is back. Help I cannot afford another $500 on the bill I am already paying on. I owe them right now $400 for his foot procedure plus cleaning his ears out from infection. He is a cocker and it was a deep infection that I didn't know was there. Plus the infection from his foot had also spead and affected his skin so they put him on antibiotics. So in all he was on 4 pills a day plus 2 kind of ear drops and a 3x a week ear cleaner. We are right now very broke I cannot afford to go to the vet again.

So here is my question do you think it would hurt to pop it myself use antibiotic cream and rewrap it myself again to see what happens.

Help ladies I want what is best for my dog but I have to thing about the $$$ too.

Before I did anything I would at least call the vet and talk to them about it. I would get their opinion on if it is a safe thing for you to do or not.

I think you should discuss this with your vet. Infection can spread so quickly and lead to more serious problems.
Let us know how he is doing.
(((hugs)))

Absolutely - there is a risk of blood poisoning, which is a fatal massive infection. I lost a beloved cat that way.

Well I tried popping it myself and it worked and drained all out I put the neosporin on it and rewrapped it took it off and remedicationed it and rewrapped it again for a few days it was better I thought but now it is back again so I am going to call the humain society and see if they can help with the cost because I cannot afford what the vet quoted me but he is not sick like in the way to put him down. He just has a sore foot. I will let you know Monday after I find out what can happen.
