Karen....hotel suggestions

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2008: Karen....hotel suggestions
By Annie2 on Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 10:45 am:

I'll be in NO tomorrow afternoon, evening and Monday am.
What do you think about these hotels?...
Chateau Dupre, Historic French Market Inn. My friend is familiar with Royal Street and Canal Street. What do you think?
I remember the Hyatt was convenient but run down. Any other suggestions. We would like to stay under $100 for two adults in one room, within walking distance to French Quarter.
Is there something going on in the city because many places are booked and very pricey.?
Hopefully we can meet for a drink or coffee.

Annie, NBA Allstar is being held in N.O., it is Feb. 11, and the city is full of tourists because of that. I am not familiar with either of those places. Chateau Dupre is *supposed* to be a nice place but only got a 3 out of 5 on reviews listed on that site. You can check out Historic French Market Inn here. Keep in mind, both of these places are old buildings, so I wouldn't expect visual perfection.

Since you are planning to stay in/around the Quarter, be sure to walk into one of the jazz joints on Bourbon St. It's just local flavor, you might enjoy it. I will say though, it's probably best to not veer off the beaten path too much. In other words, don't go down a side street that looks deserted. LOL

The Quarter has a lot to offer in the way of entertainment, but remember, some of that entertainment is a bit *seedy*. There are lots of antique shops and galleries that are nice to browse.

THIS might help in choosing a place to stay. I didn't realize you guys had not booked a place already. HERE is another link.

Honestly, I am not really familiar with any downtown hotels/motels at all. Sorry I can't be of more help, Annie. My sister stayed in the Quarter Labor Day week and really had a good time and enjoyed staying there.

Thank you, Karen. :)

Annie, I guess you don't have computer access.

I would have loved to meet you, but, just as when Bea was here in December just before Christmas, this is a bad time for me since I am having surgery this week. I'm leaving in a few minutes for the hospital for my pre-ops, and then have a doctor's appointment today.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help and that I couldn't meet up with you!

I am also from the New Orleans Area. I really hope that you enjoy your stay.
