Deadly Tornadoes

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2008: Deadly Tornadoes

Deadly tornadoes hit our area last night - my parent's neighborhood was leveled. My dad just made it out as the tornadoes (unbeknowst to him) was hitting behind him. He is okay...we thank God. Their area is leveled as is so many around us. Restaurants where we eat, homes where friends live are damaged or gone....just say prayers for all that live in Northern Arkansas this morning. It was a night of making sure family and friends were safe....

My Dh and I lived in Memphis for a few years and still have alot of good friends there. They were hot pretty hard too. We will be calling to check on friends later today. We also have friends in Jackson, TN. The devastation is just horrible!

I hope everyone is safe. How devastating. We are under a tornado warning right now until 10:am.

Yikes! Wisconsin has some rare tornadoes last month! Scary stuff.

Stay safe!

Annie, do you mean a tornado watch? A warning means a tornado is happening now!

I lay on the couch with the tv on until about 1:30 am dozing off and on. The wind was whipping around the house so hard. The tornadoes went west and north of us. I haven't heard all the details but a plane went down on a highway north of us and lightning struck a natural gas relay station and it was on fire. And something like 47 people died across the south from storm. We faired well, but it was a prayerful night.

Someone in my family just called me about an hour ago to let me know that one of our cousins was killed in a tornado last night. I'm so afraid of storms and they kept me up most of the night, but luckily we didn't have any severe weather in my area. I was praying last night while the storms going on that there wouldn't be any fatalities. Now I'll be praying for those that are personally affected by these storms. Please everyone continue to pray for everyone affected by these storms.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin.

Those are some scary storms. I saw that a dormitory was destroyed, saw a pic of it on the news. How awful. :(

I will say prayers for all involved.

The county right over from me was totally demolished in many areas! My DD's family lives in between us and that county, so we had to rush to them and bring my DSIL and 3 DGK'S to our house ( they temporarily are living in a single wide trailor, and our house is brick). My DD was at work at Vanderbilt, and there was a tornado headed right toward the area that the hospital is in, I believe from the Memphis area ! But fortunately it missed them .She said they were swarmed with tornado victims all night.Several of them died. Our youngest DD lives in Goodlettsville,Tn, which put her right in the middle with tornados coming from both directions! And our DS and his family live right on the edge of Goodletts. , so he also was in a bad place! They went to his inlaws, which also has a brich house. We were VERY blessed that none of us were harmed in any way, but it sure was scarey!!I have been praying all day for the victims of this.Over in Castilian Springs, they were hit very hard. When I was tucking my DGC into bed, I read them a passage in the bible that speaks about Jesus calming the storm.I think that helped put their little minds to rest so they could sleep.

Tornadoes are scary.

I am so sorry to hear about your cousin that died.

We got back last night from the destruction in my parents community here in Arkansas...we didn't know whether to throw up or to cry we were so numb. The devastation is horrible. My parents home fared very well in comparison to others, but they do have structural damage...they are living with us at the moment. A woman in their neighborhood was killed.

The community where I work, shop and eat...driving through there just two hours before the tornado hit also was hit horribly bad. There is nothing left of 90% of that little area. I haven't seen anything but pictures yet and those speak volumes. My co-workers home is heavily damaged.

We know so many people who have been affected in one way or another. The night of the tornado just trying to find everyone to make sure everyone was okay...was unbelievable.

Thank the Good Lord that all is well with all of us & it was just material things. We secured my folks place & got out the family photos, etc.
