Losing Weight

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2008: Losing Weight
By Anonymous on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 10:56 am:

OK I think I'm neurotic! I have decided to lose weight rapidly by taking a drastic measure:) Please no one respond with the problems of losing weight quickly, I have researched this until I'm blue in the face and it's the right decision for me.

My problem is, I've lost 13 pounds in two weeks (I have 15 more to go) and I'm having a hard time accepting "compliments" we were out yesterday, and I wore baggy clothes and a jacket, but my face really shows a difference. We were at a running event, I was not running, and three people commented on my loss, I couldn't handle it. For any of you who have lost a significant amount of weight, have you had these feelings, how did you get over them and when did you become comfortable being smaller?

TIA for any advice.

I love it when people notice I'm losing weight!! Just smile and thank them for noticing. :)

No negative comments from me. Can you share what you did to lose weight so quickly?

I read in Miss Manners, many years ago, that when someone pays you a compliment you just say "Thank you". The rest of it - how you feel - I can't address.

I love getting the compliments as I feel my hard work is paying off.

Do you perhaps feel self conscience about it because you are doing it in a way that others might not approve of and your scared to get a lecture from them?

I would love to know how you did it too ! :) I always seem to have a hard time accepting compliments ! My kids usually make a big deal for me on my b-day, and the whole time I'm squirming in my seat!! But over the last few years I've been making an effort to "allow" myself to enjoy it. That probably sounds funny, but I have a talk with myself and tell myself that it is ok to accept the attention and to relax and enjoy. It actually helps.

actually i love it when people notice i've lost weight and this time so far noone notices = ( but on to you i really don't have anything i can tell you about accepting it...and congrats on your loss

Ditto Vicki, sometimes people don't need the "full explanation" and don't feel guilty for something that you feel is right for yourself. Ever. :) Think of a response like "Thank you" and if they persist in asking how you're doing it, just reply with something that's obvious like "dedication" and roll with it...I think it's great that you are just dedicating yourself to whatever program you chose. :) And, yes, DO SHARE!!! :)

Please share what you did no negative comments from me either. Once I get the lose kicked in I know it will be easier to contniue.

Ok I've been thinking about some responses, and no it's not because of the "way" I have lost weight, I have gradually lost weight over 2 years and have not felt comfortable with comments about it ever! And I do say Thank You and leave my emotions to myself. I think I have figured out that it's when it comes from fit/skinny people it's hard because that's how I see myself, fit and skinny:) and that means they noticed how big I was/am even moreso than I did, does that make any sense!!!! I guess I thought my "fitness level" and my bright smile and good fitting clothes were hiding that extra 30 pounds!LOL

I will share the "plan" with you, but I am not recommending it, it is a personal choice for everyone, it's radical and it's a big decision so if you choose it for yourself that's great, but I've only been doing it for 2 weeks, and while my results are GREAT, I know nothing about the remainder 4-6 weeks or the maintenence that will happen when I'm done! Also I do follow a very regular and intense workout schedule and have for 2 years, so for me this was not a get skinny quick scheme, it's the zap I need to get rid of some fat to be more effective at my training and take it easier on my body. Again it was the right choice for ME, won't be for everyone and hopefully I don't start a debate or alarm!
It's a 50 year old plan called HCG diet, you can google it and come up with lots of info.
