Lady lied about Ohio lottery ticket.

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive January 2004: Lady lied about Ohio lottery ticket.
By Babysitbarb on Thursday, January 8, 2004 - 02:52 pm:

I just read on the internet that the lady who was suing the Ohio lottery lied about that the ticket she lost was the winning ticket. She needed the money and thought this would be the way to get it. She's going to get the attention she wanted now. What people think they can get away with. She apoligied to her lawyer, husband and children for lieing but, the press will have a hay day with it.

I have not heard the story, what happened?

By Bea on Thursday, January 8, 2004 - 03:04 pm:

I hope they prosecute her.

By Colette on Thursday, January 8, 2004 - 03:08 pm:

I saw this too. I hope they prosecute her. Complete trash.

She claimed she was the real winner of the large winnings for the ohio lottery. She said she dropped her purse outside the convenint store and lost her ticket. She was suing the lottery so they wouldn't pay out the money to the lady who really did win. She's know admitted that she did this because she was reasently laid off and her family needed the money. I say she will be prosecuted and she will be either put on probabtion or do some jail time. Maybe community service, who knows.

I seen this being debated on "The View" yesterday. They all thought she was lying except for Merideth...she believed her. Guess she's eating her words now huh?
That is an awful thing to do. That probably ruined a lot of the experience of *winning the lottery* for the real winner. Her win will always be tinged with this. At least the right person gets the money now!

Thing is... they did a background check and she has a history of fraud. Bad checks and credit card fraud. She has been in prison for it. That said she might get more than probation...

Well, my personal opinion, while it was not right for her to do this -- she did admit it and she didn't have to, she could have just dropped it all, so to me, that gives her a little bit of something good, and she was poor (not making that an excuse to lie). What mad me more angry was all those greedy people looking for it! They were saying if they got it, finders keepers, etc., and maybe they'd give her a little, but...that's how it goes. To me that is plain awful!!! Worse than what she did. She didn't really hurt anyone except herself in my opinion. Maybe her family is hurt because of the lie, etc., but...she mostly hurt herself. She will pay with that knowledge. I just don't like those greedy people all over the news digging through the snow just knowing THEY would find that lucky ticket! Serves them right she was lying! :) Okay, I'm done. (I'm in Ohio)

Actually she probably only admitted it because she knew they were going to find out. She filed a false police report, she tried to take what was never hers, I hope she is punished for it.

By Familyman on Friday, January 9, 2004 - 08:31 am:

She tried to steal something that wasn't hers. She's just as bad if not worse than those people that said they would keep the money if they found the ticket. Being in need doesn't in any way justify trying to steal money from the real winner of the lottery. Not only that but she tied up at least some police resources that could have been spent doing something actually good for the area.
Everything I've seen showed her saying she was sorry, but never once admitting that what she did was wrong. What a horrible example for her kids, showing them that it's ok to lie to get something as long as you think you need it. She should certainly do some community service. What's wrong with people, where has all the integrity gone?

I, too, was disgusted with the people that were trying to find something that wasn't theirs, with the intention of KEEPING it.

I saw her picture and story in the newspaper, and I just KNEW that she was lying. I didn't know about the prior convictions.

Greed is SUCH a horrible thing, and I agree that NEED does not justify stealing and dishonesty.
