ITunes Question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: ITunes Question
By Tunnia on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 11:05 am:

I have a quick ITunes gift card question--do they expire? I have an ITunes card card left over from about two years ago that I never redeemed (I haven't needed it yet since I still have money in my ITunes account). Dd is getting an IPod Nano for Christmas and I just realized as I was getting ready to wrap it a few minutes ago that I forgot to pick up an ITunes card to go with it.:( I really don't want to go to Walmart today so I am really hoping that the one I already have will still work and save me the trip. Anyone know???

Per: iTunes Store

Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, Code Redemption and Allowances

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Gift Certificates and iTunes Cards expire six months from the date of purchase if not applied to an iTunes Store account. Unused balances of credit created in an iTunes Store account expire two years from the date applied to an iTunes Store account or the date of last account activity. Unused balances of Allowance Accounts expire two years from the date of issuance or the date of last account activity.

You can buy iTunes through a Pay Pal account, by the way. When DD got her IPod, she would request money in her Pay Pal account to buy more music for birthdays and holidays.

Well, darn!:( Thanks Bobbie!

I don't think it is right for any gift card to expire when it's already been paid for in cash. I have had more gift cards expire than I use because I will stash them away and find them after the expiration date.

Yes that seems to be an on going issue and honestly it is making these places that issue the cards rich. In an article published in December of last year, there was over 8 billion in unclaimed gift cards that went into the pockets of the companies that issued the things.

FYI for those of you who may have ITunes gift cards that are more than 6 months old...Just for kicks I went ahead and entered the code from my gift card that is two years old and amazingly, it worked! It redeemed for the full amount.

Well, that is great news. Maybe they posted that hoping people wouldn't even try. Like I said, non used gift cards are a profit to the company. I am glad it worked.

Fox 5 News did a story last night about Gift cards, that a lot of companies are doing away with the experation dates.

Trust me, iTunes gift cards given to my daughter Sarah, would NEVER EVER expire. She uses them up too fast! LOL!
