Sending Christmas cards to the injured troops. Need the address!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: Sending Christmas cards to the injured troops. Need the address!
By Adilanylkoorb on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 06:33 pm:

I saw a post on here a while back about sending Christmas cards to injured troops, but now I can't find the post. Can someone give me the address to where I would send these cards. I need to get them fixed to mail tomorrow. I had meant to already do this, but things have been crazy around here lately.

I don't know about wounded troops, but here is a site to send cards to troops:

Thanks

I'll see if I can find the message you may be thinking of.

I have been reading over the past couple of days that if you send a card to "a wounded soldier" instead of to a specific soldier (by name), then the card will either be returned to sender or trashed. Sad huh? The kids and I were going to send cards to the address Ginny posted earlier (last month, I think), but not now.:( Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.

DO NOT SEND ANY SOLDIER/WOUNDED WARRIOR/RECOVERING SOLDIER/AMERICAN HERO MAIL TO WALTER REED

Snopes: Cards for Recovering Soldiers

http://www.snopes.com/politics/christmas/soldiercards.asp

There was/is an email hoax going around telling people this is a way to support the injured troops. The post office is not supposed to be accepting them and they are supposed to be returned to sender if they are sent. No return address means they are being thrown away.

They suggest in the Snopes article and through a couple other sites I found that you mail cards to..

Red Cross volunteers will open the cards, sort the cards for appropriate content and repackage them for shipping. Those not sorted by the 27th will be returned unopened.

It isn't sad, your intentions may be good but in this society not all people would be doing it for good. Which is why they can't receive the cards...

That's disappointing and sad. I have a box of 24 cards and Christmas stamps and now I don't know what to do with them. I don't know that many people to send cards out to.

Wait no... Seems as of 12/7 the Red Cross has gotten too many cards to get through in time, they suggest you go to the following links instead if you wish to help..
