I have trapped..

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: I have trapped..
By Cat on Monday, December 10, 2007 - 02:32 pm:

..a mouse in our mainfloor bathroom/laundry room. We stuck the cat in there with it. *eg* There is no way for it to get out. Any clue how we can catch it? We've tried scaring it out but there's a lot of room under the washer and dryer. Every now and then we can see it behind there, but I can't move the washer and dryer out (there's just no room, especially since we installed the laundry tub/cabinet). I don't have any traps and won't be able to get any until dh gets home. So, any suggestions? I have thought about putting the dogs in there. They'd scare it out! lol

Yikes..Gross...I am NO help! Let us know what happens. Maybe Dawn can give you some advice LOL
Maybe tell the mouse you have a cozy basement where it can live for the winter :)

I'd sic Jasmine in there! She would "take care" of the mouse! She took care of a mouse in the basement and there was no blood or mess.

DH said making a ramp with a stick and putting peanut butter at the bottom of a bucket? Or something like that?

I thought I read about people trying to catch a hamster and soaked a dishtowel in juice to lure the hamster into a container. Do you have any birdseed? They love sunflower seeds. Seeds in the bottom would lure them in, or a dollop of peanut butter.

This is too funny...a "Cat" asking for advice on how to catch a mouse!! I'm sorry...I just couldn't resist!! TeeHee, hope you're not mad at me :)

By Cat on Monday, December 10, 2007 - 10:14 pm:

ROFL, Wandilu! Of course I'm not mad. Too funny.

Dh got some traps and I've got one in there with peanut butter on it. The *real* cat was a total flop. I'm not sure he's really a cat. He thinks he's god, so... I finally let him out because I didn't want him tripping the trap. He'd throw a hissy fit. Nothing in the trap yet. I'm thinking in the morning. We're going to put some in the garage, too. That's where they're coming from. I don't blame them--it's COLD out there! I don't mind them in the garage, but draw the line when they think they're house guests. It's a shame we have two cats and they don't know how to catch mice. The dogs would probably do a better job! lol I guess they're just too pampered. :)

We had mice in our kitchen a couple years ago. People advised us to get a cat. Imagine the ridicule when I told them we had three. And a dog.

Eventually the mice moved next door. They didn't tell us why.

I think cats are useless. Our cat catches mice and does nothing with them, just releases them into our house. the dog however...Two gulps and the mouse will be gone.

Rotten little think is still in there (I think!). I put another trap with cheese on it in there and I'm running the washer and dryer (I've got laundry to do, dang it!). Maybe that will flush him out. I hope he didn't die under the washer or dryer! Guess I'll have to check. I may be sending dh back to the store for more traps. Four may not be enough for the garage! lol

The best thing to put on a trap is chocolate. Mice prefer chocolate over anything else. We just caught a mouse (our first) this morning by using a little bit of brownie on the trap. Within 5 minutes we heard the snap. Good luck. I absolutely hate mice. My 7 cats watched DH take the critter to the garbage. They only hunt kibble, not critters.

We've had good success with peanut butter. We aren't always a no-kill mouse sanctuary.

Well it must have gotten out. I couldn't find it anywhere in there. I guess if it gets in the basement maybe one of the cats will get it eventually. If it ends up elsewhere in the house a dog will probably get it (or Robin, who'd like to put it in a cage and name it Mickey! lol). I left the trap with pb behind the dryer and the other one is in the garage where the other two will go, also. I have a 7yo daycare girl here today (no school--snow day!) that refuses to use the main floor bathroom because the mouse might be in there! lol She keeps going upstairs to the master bathroom (the boys bathroom is too "gross"). Too funny! :)
