I found this rather ironic

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: I found this rather ironic
By Sunny on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 12:09 pm:

I was standing in line at the service counter of the supermarket and in front of me was a man who works at the store. His co-worker asked him if he was playing the lottery and he said, 'No. I work too hard for my money to waste it like that.' He then bought cigarettes.

I just had to smile. :)

Too funny! Definitely ironic.

Very funny. My FIL just stopped smoking a few months ago. My MIL is thrilled with the extra cash flow!

By Dawnk777 on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 06:56 pm:

Definitely ironic.

Wow...totally ironic. The other day, I was in the drive thru at Starbucks and there was a lady driving a Suburban in front of me that had a bumper sticker that read: "Friends don't let friend buy Starbucks". LOL!

By Brandy on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 08:01 pm:

that's funny lol...but another thing at the store i work at it is illegal to buy lottery tickets if you work there.

By Cocoabutter on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 08:30 pm:

Yes, very ironic.

A long time ago, before I had my son, I worked at a convenience store. I will never forget one time a guy walks in with his little boy and grabs a 24-pack of beer and requests a carton of cigarettes. His little boy wanted a piece of candy, and the dad grouched "NO! Put that back!"

I swore that I would never treat my kid that way.

Cocoabutter, I've seen that too. I worked at a little convenience store , just the owners and me. Their 9 year old was pouting because she wanted her daddy to take her out for breakfast but told her he didn't have the money and she knew he just got paid. I told her that things cost money she might not think of, like lights and water. She pointed out he just bought close to $100 worth of lotto tickets and cigarettes. I didn't have an answer for that.

My fil recently quit smoking and he is enjoying the extra cash I know!

VERY ironic. If these people only knew. I'll never get it.

By Bellajoe on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 09:54 pm:

lol @ "friends don't let friends buy starbucks" at the Starbucks drivethru.

It's like the people who get McDonald's Supersized and then order the diet coke. LOL whatever floats your boat, you might as well get the extra few 100 calories in the coke while you are at it though.

some people have their priorities in the right place and others ... well ...

Addiction. At least he stopped at smoking and didn't add complusive gambling to the mix!
When I see teens smoking I just want to scream at them.

I had water with my chocolate today... because those skim milk calories really add up!

I am probably an odd man out, but having just quit smoking, I didn't consider it wasting money. Yes, it was unhealthy, and I certainly wouldn't have spent money on cigarettes if I couldn't afford the things my family needed, but I budgeted for my cigarettes, and it was a small "luxury" for me. Some people buy Starbucks every day, some people buy convenience foods at work instead of bringing food with them, some buy beer or a bottle of wine so they can enjoy a bit after work, I didn't do any of those, but I smoked. I think spending lots of money on lotto tickets is stupid, but buying one every so often for fun is fine with me. It's all relative, IMHO.

On a sidenote, it is nice to have that extra money now that I have quit!!
