All the photo pros--I need help. PLEASE

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: All the photo pros--I need help. PLEASE
By Yjja123 on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 10:13 am:

OK-- the grandparents want a picture of the kids with Santa. My kids are 11 & 13 and think they are way too cool to pose with Santa.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a template I could superimpose (?) the kids picture with Santa?
Any/all help greatly appreciated!
Yvonne

Surely they can go sit with Santa for the grandparents? :)

By Yjja123 on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 10:56 am:

I could make them but I understand their not wanting to.
Since the mall santa does not even look so great, I thought it would look better to use a photo template. I just can't locate one.

Yeah, I agree with Deanna. This is one of those great life lessons for kids to learn about doing something for someone important to them just to make them happy. Especially when other than the inconvenience it doesn't hurt them. If they have a close relationship with these grandparents and/or these grandparents do thoughtful things for your kids, I would just let them know they're doing it - so put on a happy face and think about how much they love their grandma and grandpa.

Personally I'd tell the grandparents that they'll need to think of something else they'd like for Christmas. I'd tell them the kids haven't visited with Santa for X number of years, and a forced photo of them with Santa would be a very inaccurate representation of who they were at this age, and it will no doubt just bug and embarrass them each time they see it displayed at Grandma's and Grandpa's house.

Anyway, on to the actual question, and enough of the unsolicited advice....

I don't know of a template, but could you take an old photo of them with Santa and try and superimpose new pics of the kids? Or at least new faces?

Suggestions:
A life-size cut-out of Santa and have them pose with it.

Pose them next to a small Santa, or have them take turns holding it.

Have Dad put on a white beard and red hat and call him Santa.

Drag them to the local mall and have them stand next to Santa.

Tell grandparents to think of something else since the kids don't believe anymore.

Good luck! :)

I agree with Deanna. Teens especially need to be reminded that sometimes we do things even when we don't want to because it gives pleasure and/or is important to someone else. I also agree, not a sitting on Santa's lap photo, but a nice seasonal photo for which they dress up and pose is not asking too much of grandchildren.

By Yjja123 on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 12:23 pm:

They HAVE done a nice seasonal photo already.
I think asking a teenager to pose with santa is a bit much.
Thanks, I will keep looking.

If you have pictures of them sitting and facing left I can make you what you want. Send them to me at BVDS1 at ver izon dot net (no spaces).

OK---THANKS!!!

Sorry if someone mentioned this. Could you also do a scrap-type page (12x12) of some of their old Santa photos, leading up to a current photo of them together. You could frame it in a shadow box and the grandparents could hang it every year at Christmas-time.

Thank you Bea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My kids Thank you too :)
You saved them a great deal of embarrassment.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 06:43 pm:

I don't think my kids would have wanted to pose with Santa, at 11 and 13. They would have looked at me like I was an alien from another planet.

Thank you for understanding!
They would have done it if I had insisted.
I completely understood why they didn't want to! I didn't think it was right to make them do it.

Now Grandma can have her picture and the kids can save their dignity....and I had fun. LOL

By Wandilu on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 07:10 pm:

How cute!! Is is just me...or does Santa have boobs?!

By Bea on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 11:46 am:

I think his padding slipped. He was the best sitting Santa, in a good position for the cut and paste, I found. I don't think grandma will object.

By Yjja123 on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 12:09 pm:

No complaints here.
Thanks again Bea!

These Santa photos are great!
I understand your kids not wanting to sit with Santa. There is no way I would have at their age, and if I was forced, I wouldn't be smiling in the photo. These are perfect! Bea, you do good work.

By Luvn29 on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 05:38 pm:

It is clear that most people on here that suggested your kids be made to sit with Santa either don't have kids at that age yet, or have kids way past that age and have forgotten!

There's no way I would insist on my kids sitting with Santa at your kids' ages. A very sensitive age at that. I'm sure they wouldn't have minded if he were at a private place, but I can't imagining them having to wait in line in a very public place to sit with Santa! Sorry, not at their age!

I think it is very wonderful of you as a mother to understand their feelings. They will appreciate and respect you very much for that.

Bea, wonderful job on the photos!

Adena, I was thinking how awful it would be for a kids this age to stand in line, as well. We took Lara to see Santa at the mall yesterday. It was an hour long wait. Can you imagine how teenagers would feel surrounded by these babies and little kids, all the while hoping none of their friends from school would walk by? Sitting with Santa would only take a minute, but waiting in a line would be torture!

By Conni on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 07:08 pm:

I have a 14 yo and 15 yo that would rather eat a can of worms than sit with Santa. ROFL Now, they would do it, if all their friends were in on it. Or if they got paid a high amt of money. ;) However, they would LOVE to sit with Grandparents and have pics made minus santa. They would never object to posing with their grandparents. :) They also like to take pics in front of the xmas tree.

Cute pics!!!!!

Santa was at a local store today. I asked my kids to come with me to get their pics taken. My 11 and 12 year olds were happy to go, but my 14 year old told me she's too old to go. I asked her a few times, but she was firm. I left her at home, and just had the pic taken with the other 2.
