What are you getting your dh's this year??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: What are you getting your dh's this year??
By Vicki on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 05:06 pm:

I need some inspiration! I have a couple of things on order (love internet shopping) for dh, but I am just lost at what else to get for him. What are some of you creative ladies getting for your husbands/partners/boyfriends?

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 05:33 pm:

We are doing a joint gift to each other this year - A digital camcorder. I just ordered it yesterday. :)

By Tink on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 06:14 pm:

Guitar Hero 3, a tattoo magazine subscription, a watch and new cordless phones. I'd like to get him an ID bracelet with a special phrase engraved on the back but we'll have to see how much is left in the budget for that.

By Yjja123 on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 07:01 pm:

Tools
Guitar Hero 3 with double controllers
Dive Watch
Wetsuit
and our big gift to each other is next years cruise. We will be celebrating our 15th anniversary onboard, so we are treating ourselves to the Grand Suite.

By Mom2three1968 on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 07:21 pm:

Tink,

did you get that wii guitar hero?? I can't find it here...

By Reds9298 on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 07:40 pm:

I'm getting DH a Mario Game for the Wii, Harry Potter on Blu-Ray, a watch, large Best Buy gift card(he's saving for an HD-DVD player), and a fight magazine subscription.

By Enchens on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 07:41 pm:

Everything he wanted, he already bought for himself last week! So I'm at a loss.

By Tsa on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 07:48 pm:

Guitar Hero III for the Wii (pre-ordered b4 it came out), tools, tools, and more tools, a dvd recorder with a whole lot of letters (hdtv, rvr,...) after it, an external hard drive...

By Pamt on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 07:58 pm:

Wow, you all must have money trees in your back yard! :) Our budget is no more than about $60-75 each, so if I got DH Guitar Hero that would be it for him. We both need serious winter clothes, so that is what we are getting for each other, plus some stocking stuffers.

By Debbie on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 08:20 pm:

Wow!! Okay, I am a rotten wife. I have NEVER gotten my dh that much stuff at Christmas. We just got a new dinning room set last month, so we are not getting each other gifts for Christmas. Our anniversary is in February, and we are going to wait and do something special then.

By Reds9298 on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 08:21 pm:

Pam, we only spend about $200 each now. Is that alot? I honestly don't know what people think "a lot" is, LOL. We used to spend waaaay more than that when we had 2 incomes.

By Shellyg on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 09:07 pm:

A Muzzle! J/K!

By Marcia on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 09:12 pm:

Nothing. Well, stocking stuffers, and a little something from the kids, but no big gift. We just had to cough up a lot of money for the 5 of us to cruise in Feb, so Christmas big gifts can't happen. The girls will all get some gifts, but not as many as normal. They understand.

By Breann on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 09:17 pm:

We just moved into our new house, and got a couple of flat screen tv's for the walls and a new camcorder. Plus, DH just got a new car a few weeks ago because his old one finally died. So, we are calling all of that our Christmas for each other. We'll probably spend about $100 each for some odds and ends things for each other, but no major gift giving. Just love :) LoL

By Bellajoe on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 09:17 pm:

Wow you've got some lucky hubbys! I'm with Pam and the 60-75 dollar limit. LOL My hubby usually gets a sweater and socks. :) I guess I am cheap!

I have no clue what to get him this year. Everything he wants costs a lot of money! Plus we just spent a lot of money on the Wii we got the kids. So I dont' think either of us will get much for each other.

By Tink on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 09:37 pm:

We spend about $200 on each other. He'd like us to spend more but we just can't swing it this year. We just spend what is reasonable, given our budget and what we need each year. I didn't think $200 was a lot to spend on each other. My dh's best friend is buying his wife a new car this year. My stepdad is selling his motorcycle and I'd LOVE to surprise dh with that!

By Luvn29 on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 10:13 pm:

My husband refuses to spend money on himself all year long. He never gets himself anything. And I do mean that. He doesn't even want to buy new socks! Work boots, he'll use them way past being worn out. So I like to spoil him on Christmas. It means a lot to me to get to buy him things. And he truly does appreciate it very much.

This year, our budget is a little low because of some things, including moving in the spring. But I still plan on getting him as much as possible. It's my way of saying I appreciate him so very much.

I love the holidays. I go all out for Christmas, Birthdays, Easter, you name it! And I never regret any of it.

By Crystal915 on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 10:38 pm:

I'm trying to get him a Wii, but they are sold out everywhere, and they are over $500 on eBay. We decided to just wait if we can't find one before Christmas. I also bought a Citizen Eco-Drive watch for his bday in January. I love my Eco-Drive, and I got his for less than $150 on Black Friday, which was a KILLER deal!!! I know he bought me an iPod Touch (I figured it out by accident LOL!!), and although I didn't want such an expensive gift, I'm really looking forward to it. He hasn't decided if he wants my iPod Nano, or wants me to sell it to a friend, so that may re-coup some of the cost. As for the money, I hadn't originally planned to spend so much (over $300), but the kids are gone for the holidays (which saves on daycare) and money is fairly comfortable, so I decided to splurge. I'm with Adena, I am very frugal most of the time, and rarely spend full retail price when shopping, so I enjoy going all out for Christmas.

By Boxzgrl on Thursday, November 29, 2007 - 11:45 pm:

Our family gift is a Wii but i'm getting after the holidays since he won't be home until April/May anyways. I sent him a new g-shock watch (his favorite brand), a set of poker cards with the kids picture on them and a picture ornament of the kids for the 3ft Christmas tree his grandma sent him to Iraq. Obviously, he doesn't get to be too spoiled this year because he can't have anything big sent to him because he may not have room to bring it home.

By Kaye on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 07:46 am:

We have a 50 dollar limit. So my hubby is getting two movies I found on specail. A shirt that I bought on clearance and I have 30 dollars left I don't know what I will do with.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 08:18 am:

I have no clue! LOL!

By Luvn29 on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 09:02 am:

Crystal, Wal-mart here gets them every Tuesday around 9 or 10 in the morning. I was going to go hang out in the Electronics dept on Tues. but I got a bundle online at Toys R Us this morning that included games I was going to buy anyhow.

I do know that Walmart gets a shipment every week. If you can figure out when, you should be able to grab one.

By Dandjmom on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 10:59 am:

With two kids of my own, quite a few close cousins and and two of them have kids and then god kids, I stopped doing birthday ( it was always someone's birthday). So I go all out for Christmas, cousins and god kids usually walk away with anywhere from 6 to 10 items, and my kids they get swamped. I don't buy toys during the year, no new video games, for the past 4 years to conserve and have money so we can do activities ont he weekends, unless it's clothes or a pair of shoes for my kids, they only get new stuff for Christmas. So in other words what they ask for they usually get and then I also get them what I want them to have.

As far as my boyfriend goes, I'm going to get him a new portable dvd player (he does a lot of road trips for playing sports, I have him 4 shirts already, I want to get him some jeans, he wants a North Face coat, a braclet engraved with his name and a few other things, and I'll pick my stockings up later on and fix one for all of the kid sand him as well.

I asked for a DS Lite and 3 games that I want for that, and a pool table. I'm going to buy it myself , but just have it in the back room so if no one gets it I will have it.

By Yjja123 on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 11:13 am:

I shop year round so that I can go all out for Christmas.
The guitar hero set I bought for $60
The dive watch (on clearance) $30
The wetsuit (on clearance) for $40
Etc---etc.
I like to make Christmas as special as possible but I definitely keep to a budget.

I want a digital camera but I asked hubby to wait until next year to get it (right before we go on our anniversary cruise). There isn't anything else I really want.

By Vicki on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 12:53 pm:

You guys have some great ideas! I am still stumped! LOL

By Tsa on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 01:38 pm:

Have you heard of an adventure day?!? They had it on the Today show, I guess. You can order a day of: Nascar driving, Scuba Diving, etc. You need to go online and find when they are coming to your area--not the scuba;). It sounds like fun.

By Bellajoe on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 03:14 pm:

i just got dh a panini maker, I don't know what else to get him yet though.

By Cheerio on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 09:30 pm:

My DH just started a new sales job so he is out in front of clients a lot. I ordered him a monogramed sterling silver business card holder. I got it yesterday and it is very nice. I hope he is excited. It cost about $150, so he'll probably get a couple of smaller little presents to go with it. We've had years where we've set limits of $50 each due to budget concerns, but I don't think we've ever spent more than $250 on each other. I owe him big anyway. I had a baby last year and he got me the most gorgeous bracelet with all of our birthstones on it since our family is now complete.

By Mlee on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 09:54 pm:

Today DH is getting a lump of coal. I'll keep you posted about if he makes it back on my Nice List.

By Imamommyx4 on Friday, November 30, 2007 - 10:12 pm:

DH is getting an impact wrench. I don't know what it is, but that's what he wants.

By Rayelle on Saturday, December 1, 2007 - 12:08 am:

We haven't had the money to exchange gifts the last few years. We put it into the kids. The kids have stuff they need and they love going to yard sales with me in the summer, but other than that we don't buy toys. At Christmas we go all out as best we can. They believe in Santa whole heartedly! I love that!

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, December 1, 2007 - 12:31 pm:

DH wants a nice knit cap, that would actually fit on his head, because many hats are tight! I have found that, too, for myself. I should knit him one, but I think time is getting tight now! Maybe for next Christmas! LOL!

By Enchens on Saturday, December 1, 2007 - 12:49 pm:

LOL, Mlee. I've had those days, too.

By Missbookworm on Sunday, December 2, 2007 - 12:43 pm:

I haven't decided! lol

By Bobbie~moderatr on Sunday, December 2, 2007 - 02:01 pm:

Nothing.. LOL we do not and have not exchanged gifts since we had Callie. All the money goes to the kids. They will buy us gifts if they are able. This year Callie and the girls have bought us something.

We have always made it about the kids.. I buy DH things and myself things as I can through out the year. I think we are both happy with what we have and how we have always worked things.. I honestly can't think of things I want or need anyway. I prefer the kids have a good time and that is my gift. LOL

By Tklinreston on Monday, December 3, 2007 - 12:44 pm:

My ds is turning 40 on Dec 19 and so my gift will be a combination gift for his 40th birthday and Christmas. I'm not 100% yet but am leaning towards this gift. Feel free to chime in your opinion. Well... my ds has a bad back and he travels on business alot. He says he never sleeps as well as when he is in a Westin's "heavenly bed" and so I am thinking about getting him one. The whole ensemble.. the bed, the sheets/comforter, pillows etc.. Also getting him the I-Phone.

By Yjja123 on Monday, December 3, 2007 - 01:03 pm:

I think that is an awesome gift! There is nothing like a good nights sleep!

By Insaneusmcwife on Monday, December 3, 2007 - 06:05 pm:

Oooh Shelly, If you find one let me know. I'd love to get some for the kids, lol.

Crystal, We ordered our from walmart.com. I don't know how much you want to spend but they have a package deal with 6 games and other accesories for around $600. Also try Best Buy as I was there last week and they had a bunch of them just sitting out on the floor.

Dh said he only wanted things he could take with him to Iraq. So I got him a watch, a heart rate monitor, a few sports/fitness magazine subscriptions, portable dvd player, an external hard drive, a digital picture frame and I will be getting him a pair of running shoes and a new wallet (he lost his wallet this weekend :( ).
