Black Friday

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2007: Black Friday
By Paulas on Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 09:42 pm:

Please tell me all about Black Friday. Is it really a big sale?

We are thinking of going to the States this weekend and are wondering if it is going to be absolutely crazy.

Also, we are close to Maine. Is anyone familiar with Maine shopping?

By Reds9298 on Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 10:02 pm:

It's a really big sale, sometimes ridiculous deals for real early birds the day after Thanksgiving.

Check out www.theblackfriday.com Walmart does not post theirs until late, right before the big day.
I use that every year to scope out if there's anything I want. THEN, I order it online and never leave the house. I've never wanted something that wasn't the same black friday price online. This year I'm shooting for the 9th Seinfeld Season on DVD for $14.98 @ Target. Yipppeee! Looking for an HD-DVD player for my DH, but nothing is cheap enough for me yet.

By Tsa on Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 10:47 pm:

Wal-Marts ad will be posted on Nov 19!!!!!! :) That is the last ad I'm waiting for. Yes, Black Friday is a crazy day to go shopping. My sister, mom and I consider it a sport. It is a sprint to each store for the best deal. It really is a lot of fun. Yes, I order what I really want on line but the fun is being out with people.

By Rayelle on Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 11:37 pm:

The walmart ad is up on gottdeal.com, if it's legit, but it usually is. They have others too.

By Tsa on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 01:26 am:

I can't find it. I can't find "gottdeal.com" I'm hoping you mean gottadeal.com and forgot the a. Anyway, I still can't find it.

HELP!!!!!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 07:42 am:

DD works at Walmart as a cashier, she has to be at work at 4:45 in the morning, they have hired in 15 partime cashiers and they are having every register opened the morning of Black Friday. Every year they have been in our town, Black Friday draws a crowd so big that the lines are all the way back into the clothing department. I have gone two years and it is absolutely nuts. My sister and I did the run from store to store things one year and we went to a toy store in the mall first, an hour and a half before the store was to open and we were lined up outside and they had us go in 15 at a time. LOL It was crazy.... So how bad is it? It depends on the size of the store and what big items they have on sale. They had a fist fight at our Walmart last year, they actually have police on duty in the store, now how nuts is that?

By Colette on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 09:43 am:

I am familiar with Maine shopping - where in Maine are you going? Northern and midcoast Maine will probably be busy, especially the outlets, but parts of Maine near the NH border won't be to bad, because there is no sales tax in NH so people on the border in Mass, Vermont and Maine will shop there. Except Kittery, Maine because they have a ton of oultets there too.

By Trina~moderator on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 09:47 am:

We avoid going out on Black Friday. It's just too crowded and hectic for me. LOL!

By Luvn29 on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 02:56 pm:

It is gottadeal.com and they have a post up that they received a letter from Walmart's legal team stating they were to take the ad down. They will be posting it at 12:00 tonight.

By Reds9298 on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 05:31 pm:

www.theblackfriday.com is the official Black Friday site. I've never used anything else. :)

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 08:30 pm:

I'll be working at the clinic from 8:30am to 5:30pm. I don't want to be anywhere near those stores, in the morning!

By Tsa on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 09:42 pm:

Wal-mart's ad is up on Gottadeal.com.

By Brandy on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 10:06 pm:

I'm going to go to meijer early in the morning but i will be regretting it i'm sure since i work until midnight the night before...i'm going for the digital picture frame...reg.79.99 on sale for 29.99

By Rayelle on Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 11:54 pm:

Oh sorry! Yep, forgot the a! I LOVE this site! I did almost all my Christmas shopping through heads up I got from this site last year! It's good year round too. There was a big post about walmart threatening legal action about the ads being posted but they never cared before, and they did it anyway. They also have Sears, toys r us, and more. I didn't know they came up so early. I just found this site about this time last year. They've been up awhile. I also benefited because in January I found out Old NAvy was having a huge sale and got all my kids nice clothes for school for nothing. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. It's fun!

By Dandjmom on Monday, November 19, 2007 - 12:28 pm:

Wal Mart has posted there ad, I received it this morning. they have some pretty good deals, I like the three piece towel sets

By Dandjmom on Monday, November 19, 2007 - 12:33 pm:

Oh my fault, the ad in on blakcfriday.com

By Karen~admin on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 - 05:57 pm:

These are the 6 sites I've been told about:

Gottadeal

The Black Friday

Black Friday Ads

Black Friday

bfads

Black-Friday

Some have virtually the same info, just thought I'd share.

By Paulas on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 - 10:02 pm:

Oh no Colette! That's exactly where we are going. We can't go though until after work on Friday so I'm guessing (hoping) that maybe most of the crowds will be done by then???? We will leave here around 4 on Friday and get to Portland that evening. We'll do some Christmas shopping in Kittery and Freeport on Saturday and Sunday and head home Sunday.

I'm thinking maybe we made a mistake

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 - 10:16 pm:

My boss approved me to take the morning off (every manager in the building is working Thanksgiving, and I'm also scheduled at 0900 on Friday) so I will be doing my Black Friday shopping from about 0400 to noon! I'm stoked, I *LOVE* BF shopping!!! Sadly, my best girlfriends are not here, one is in Iraq and the other is in VA until her hubby gets home from Iraq, so I'll be flying solo. :( I may ask my ex-assistant (she was promoted, not fired, lol) if she wants to go, just to have some girl time!

By Paulas on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 06:51 pm:

I would love to have some girl time too but I have no one to take with me.

By Crystal915 on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 08:25 pm:

Paula,
Too bad we can't go together!!

By Paulas on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 10:43 pm:

I know. That would be pretty cool.

By Breann on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 12:20 am:

Yep, it will be absolutely crazy. I think it's so fun though :)
We probably won't go out though. My DH has to work on Friday. I hope to at least make it out shopping on Saturday just to get into that holiday feeling!

By Paulas on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 06:38 am:

We won't be shopping on Friday either. We can't leave until Friday after work so we won't get in to Portland until late Friday night. We'll shop in Kittery on Saturday. I'm looking forward to outlet shopping!

By Colette on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 06:43 am:

Have fun! looks like the weather will be nice for shoppping.

By Colette on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 06:45 am:

I mean shopping.

here is the outlet's website - so you can see all of the different stores, etc. that are there.

By Brandy on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 07:10 am:

I want to go with crystal and paula too wah lol = ) too bad we don't live near eachother we would have a blast = )

By Karen~admin on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 07:50 am:

Crystal, I used to love Black Friday shopping too. Haven't done it in a few years since we've been traveling on Black Friday. I'm actually considering going it alone tomorrow - though I have to think about it more. LOL I'm not as young as I used to be. I'm going to check the ads today on the sites listed above, *try* to make a list, and maybe go EARLY.

On another note, DH and I bought a really nice artifical tree this year. Yes, I LOVE a real tree, but every year we are on vacation around Thanksgiving for 2 weeks, and when we return, the real trees on the lots are *dead* looking, and for the last 2 years, I haven't even HAD a tree. So last year I vowed I'd put a tree up before we left. Also, with Jeff living in MS now, we have no help and no way to get the real tree home, so we decided to get a prelit fake tree.

DH and I assembled it last night, and tomorrow night, or Saturday, we will decorate it. Putting up the tree over Thanksgiving holidays was always a tradition of mine, and I am excited to know it's getting done this year!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 09:11 am:

Around here, Kohls and Penney's are opening up at 4am! Yikes! Kohls is only about a mile away, but Penney's is no longer local to us. The nearest ones are about a half-hour away. No way! I have to work at 8:30am, so I don't want to be up half the night, so I'll still be sleeping.

By Crystal915 on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 08:13 pm:

I'm driving 45 minutes to Topeka to go to Kohl's. They are having the best sales around, and a few items I have been looking for locally without success are there. So, I'm excited, but it's going to be a long day tomorrow!!

By Reds9298 on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 09:29 pm:

OUr Kohls opens at 4am tomorrow as well. They are having GREAT deals on toys....50% off everything. My mom is heading there first thing. They had 40% off a few weeks ago on toys though also, so DH and I finished up our shopping for Nat then. Have fun finding the deals Crystal!

By Paulas on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 10:06 pm:

So, will we still get some deals on Saturday?

By Crystal915 on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 10:19 pm:

Paula,
Most places have big sales all weekend, with special sales for each day. :)

By Brandy on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 05:51 am:

I went and i'm back but i'm not happy lol mainly because my sister in law got a digital picture frame that i was wanting and she didn't even want it.and then she was laughing about it i was thinking whatever! oh well it was my fault because i had planned on being up earlier and getting to meijer sooner but i got up at around 5 when everything started going on sale...i did get my husbands stuff though = )

By Karen~admin on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 06:01 am:

I'm just leaving. Digital picture frame is on my list. LOL I got a late start. Another thing on my list is a $200 leather jacket that I'm going to get for $50 today! :-)

By Brandy on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 07:08 am:

good luck Karen lol = )

By Bellajoe on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 09:06 am:

My dh went to work this morning at 6:30. He called me laughing. He said there were TONS of people on the road, plaza blvd which is the road between the mall and a shopping center was packed. He said there was even a line at Michaels! He said usually when he stops at Starbucks on Fridays there are 2 people in line, this morning there were 20 people before him.

LOL, I'm glad I slept in. The sales can't be worth that head ache. I got online this morning and did some shopping in my pjs. :) Free Shipping!

By Reds9298 on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 09:30 am:

Ditto Bellajoe!! :)

By Brandy on Friday, November 23, 2007 - 12:17 pm:

ah it wasn't bad at all = ) i even braved walmart lol = ) my mother in law got my digital picture frame though there = ) first i went to meijer though to look again for the digital picture frame again and i found one ! yay so i got one at walmart one at meijer and then i also purchased 3-2gb sd cards for my camera = )

Black Friday Mania in Sheboygan

One poor reporter, had to get up before dawn, to shoot a video of the 4am shoppers today! I'm glad it wasn't me!
