My favorite Christmas special

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2007: My favorite Christmas special
By Luvn29 on Saturday, November 10, 2007 - 08:11 pm:

The Christmas season has officially begun for us! We just watched our favorite Christmas special on television: The Grinch That Stole Christmas (the original cartoon version). I love, love, love that cartoon! And every time I watch it I wonder why in the world I don't have any Grinch collectibles or decorations for Christmas!

By Rayelle on Saturday, November 10, 2007 - 09:19 pm:

Oh no! I forgot this came on tonight! It's my favorite too! Oh well, they usually show it more than once.

By Bellajoe on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 08:14 am:

I think we have it on video, we will watch it sometime after Thanksgiving....one holiday at a time for me :)

By Annie2 on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 08:55 am:

It was on already?! I love that one, too along with the Little Drummer Boy.

By Trina~moderator on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 09:13 am:

I never did like the Grinch. He spooked me as a child. LOL! My all time favorite Christmas special is A Charlie Brown Christmas. A close second would be the movie "Prancer" with Sam Elliot. :)

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 01:52 pm:

I like the original cartoon Grinch and Charlie Brown Christmas. We have them both on DVD now. Yay!

By Kay on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 02:44 pm:

It's not Christmas unless "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" is aired! :)

By Yjja123 on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 03:11 pm:

I prefer the Jim Carey version :)

By Cat on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 03:47 pm:

My all time favorite Christmas special was always "Nester, the long eared Christmas Donkey". It's not all that well known, but I loved it.

By Tunnia on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 05:10 pm:

I'm with Kay on this one. It just isn't Christmas without seeing Rudolph. The funny thing is, we own it on DVD, but I have to see it on network tv (with commercials and all) for it to "feel" right. LOL Dh says I'm nuts and I figure he's probably right.

BTW, I can't believe that the Grinch has aired already (we have that one on DVD too). I subscribe to the "one holiday at a time" approach that Bellajoe has. My whole family feels that way and we have a tradition that every Thanksgiving night, after the meal is eaten and cleaned up, we all sit down and watch "Christmas Vacation" together as a way of saying, "Ok, NOW it's time for Christmas." Each member of my family owns a copy so that no matter whose house we are at we can watch the movie together.:)

By Wandilu on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 05:30 pm:

My very, very favorite is " It's A Wonderful Life". I have seen it a million times!! I like to have it playing in the background even when we aren't actually watching it !! Tunnia, I'm glad to hear you say that !! Even if I have certain movies, I like to watch them network tv, commercials and all, too!! For many, many years, what "kicked " Christmas off for me was watching the Norelco electric shaver commercials. I don't think they still make them, or I've just not seen them.

By Luvn29 on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 07:37 pm:

Yep, that's me, too. I need to see it complete with commercials or it's just another cartoon! LOL! I guess we are all certifiable!

We love Christmas Vacation, and watch it every year, too! It was on this summer in a National Lampoon marathon, and I refused to watch it! Just didn't feel right!

By Mlee on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 10:10 pm:

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. It was a real blow when they stopped showing it.

Rudolf...that's a "new" Christmas show. Charlie Brown, new. Grinch, new.

Any children's holiday show that came on tv after I was about 8 years old is "new." Do they still show "The Wizard of Oz" on New Years? Now that's NOT new. Unless you see it in color instead of black and white.

Hmm, maybe I'm a little out of touch with tv. ("It's A Wonderful Life" is new because I didn't see it until I was in my 20's.) Okay, so maybe I'm a little out of touch with reality, too...

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, November 11, 2007 - 10:22 pm:

"A Christmas Story" is my favorite...the tongue on the pole, the leg lamp, and the mouth full of soap! Love it love it love it...

That, and of course, Rudolph!

Heidi, my dh says his favorite is "A Christmas Story". I like "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". The one with the Winter Warlock, lol! I'm like many of you, I have to watch the specials on T.V. even though we have them on DVD. I remember when I was young, my brothers and I would look forward to a special coming on all day. Mom would make popcorn, we would get all ready so we wouldn't have to miss a moment of the show, lol. There was something great about those times! The annual showing of the Wizard of Oz was always special, as well. I wonder if they still show it every year.

By Colette on Monday, November 12, 2007 - 06:58 am:

I watched the wizard of oz last night.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, November 12, 2007 - 12:05 pm:

We watched the Wizard of OZ too. Last night we caught the Santa Clause with Tim Allen, which is one of the favorites around here. We usually watch it while we put up our tree, it would be our kick off for the holidays movie.

And I am about the commercials in the middle of the shows to. Norelco electric shaver commercials, LOL The ones from the 70's ran last year, in black and white, I loved it.

Cat "Nester, the long eared Christmas Donkey" is Callies favorite one too.
