My laptop won't open to windows. A black screen comes up and prompts me to safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with prompts, use last configuration or open windows normally. I've tried all of them, tried shutting it off and trying again but that screen keeps coming up.
Any ideas?

Have you got your original system disks? Am I right to assume you're running XP?

Sounds like a hard drive problem. Ours did this when our hard drive died the first time on our old computer. We had to replace it and couldn't retrieve anything. I hope it's not that!

It took me ALL DAY! to fix this problem. I was helped by my sister's coworker. I had to reinstall everything. I lost everything on my computer (not much) but I finally have it working. My BIL told me to install the other cd that I had and that brought me back online. Yeah!!!!
Tomorrow I am going to buy one of those back-up savers...lesson learned.
