School Yearbook

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2007: School Yearbook

I volunteered to take on this job for our kids elementary school. Have any of you done this before? I'd love to get BTDT tips and advice. I am hoping to do the on-line version as opposed to the old cut-and-paste approach. I talked to a couple of kids who weren't interested in working on the yearbook...until I told them I wanted to do it on the computer. I still have to meet with our rep to find out more about it, but I think it will give a fresh, clean look to the book that way. Any experience?

This is my first year doing year book for preschool. I've asked other parents to capture photos of each event and I plan on doing the whole year book digitally with a scrapbook program. So no real advice but this is how I plan to do it.

A friend did her 40th birthday on line with Walmart. They printed up 12x12 sheets for her.

I too would love to hear some ideas.

Wish I could give you some advice. I was editor of my high school year book 28 years ago. I think things have changed just a tad. The only piece of advice that I can think of that might still be pertinent is that they always told us to position pictures so the object of the picture is not looking off the page. It leads the reader to look off the page and gives the reader the feeling of incompleteness or missing something.

But that sounds like fun.

Thanks for that tip, Debbie! Things may have changed in terms of how it is done, but advice like that certainly stays the same! I appreciate that one.

It turns out we are not doing it on-line because of cost. But I am changing it to an all color book this year. I'll be meeting with the rep after I get the packet and sample in my hands and we'll be ready to go. I am very excited about this project!

And when you are positioning pics and copy and symbols, don't leave empty space in the middle close to the binding. Always position empty space to the outer edges if necessary.

That's all I got. Those are the only 2 things that have stuck after all these years.
