13 y/o student attempts suicide at local school

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2007: 13 y/o student attempts suicide at local school

This happened yesterday morning. It's very near my office but at the time, I had no clue what was going on, which is probably good, because it would have really upset me. All I knew yesterday morning was that a large number of police cars, shortly followed by an ambulance, were speeding down the street in front of my office - honestly, I have NEVER seen police cars go that fast around here. At the time, I figured it must have been a very bad traffic accident. However, later on, we discovered it was at this school, where a 13 y/o shot himself in the head.

This upset me a lot last night, trying to comprehend what would drive a 13 y/o to this. He was on the football team, and apparently well liked. It just breaks my heart. The last I heard he is still on life support.

Wow, that is very sad. At 13 he is still a baby. What could be so awful that you would want to kill yourself?

By Karen~admin on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 - 06:05 pm:

He is gone. :-(

Andi, I wondered the same thing. These things tear me up inside.

:( That is so sad. I have no idea what goes through anyone's mind, that makes them want to kill themselves.

Absolutely awful. A baby without a doubt. A friend of mine that I used to teach with had a son who committed suicide at 14 because he got 2 bad grades on his report card. Can you imagine? But from what I've gathered, the father was very perfectionist and demanded a certain way of living that possibly put unreasonable expectations on the child.

You just never know what is going through their heads, or how they perceive things we never imagine are impacting them.

I can't imagine being the parent of this child.
:(

Poor kid, I hope he will now have peace because surely he is in a better place. I don't know what I would do if it were my child.

That is so sad. You never know what is going on with someone, even though it can seem like they have it all together. His poor family.
