Mouth Rash

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2007: Mouth Rash
By Kathy on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 09:22 pm:

My 12 year old started to get what looked like cold sores on the corners of her mouth, but it is now spreading further onto her face. There are a few bumps on her chin and lower cheek area. Any ideas?

By Kaye on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 11:20 pm:

do a search for impetigo pics, often if a rash spreads that is what it is

Yeah...that was one of my guesses. I'm keeping her home from school for the rest of the week. Is there anything I can do for it?

By Annie2 on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 11:51 pm:

She'll need an antibiotic if it is impetigo. Call your dr first thing in the am.

My mom took Gwen to the drs. today. It was allergic reaction to either poison ivy, oak or sumac. She got some meds and is on the mend. I'm glad it wasn't impetigo. Thanks for your help!

That sounds bad enough, but glad it wasn't impetigo!

I had this happen to me when I was a kid. Turned out that I had poison ivy growing on the back side of a bush that sat right out side my bedroom window (it was discovered after the doctors visit). I had been sleeping with the window open and apparently the breeze had carried in the poison ivy and I had laid there breathing it in all night.. Ended up in my throat, inside my mouth and nose. I don't remember how they treated it but I do remember getting it.

Hope she heals up quickly.
