BBQ chicken...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2007: BBQ chicken...
By Jelygu on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - 02:03 pm:

Hey, I am making BBQ chicken in the crockpot today. I love my crockpot for pot roast and pork tenderloin, but I've never done chicken before. I'm using about 8 legs, and just wondering how long you ladies would let it cook?

TIA!!

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - 03:18 pm:

I usually let a whole chicken cook for about 4 hours, but legs will be less. I'm sure some of the other moms have done BBQ chicken, so let's bump to the top!!

I usually do chicken pieces for about 4-5 hours on low, 3-4 on high. HTH:)

Ditto 4-5hrs on low - it will be delicious!

I've never done chicken with bones in the crockpot, but it sounds delicious!
One of our favorite chicken recipes is a crockpot chicken cordon bleu.
I'm excited for cooler weather so I can start making some yummy foods :)

Thanks, I did it for 4 hours and it was super yummy :)

Breann, can you post that recipe? I would love to try it!

By Breann on Sunday, September 16, 2007 - 12:48 am:

Sorry, just barely seeing this.

Here is what I use:
boneless/skinless chicken breasts, cut in half
sliced ham, I usually buy the thin sliced ham from the deli.
2 cans cream of chicken soup, mixed with milk to make a nice creamy mixture
swiss cheese

Spray crockpot with nonstick spray. Arrange chicken breasts in crockpot. Arrange ham on top of chicken. (I use a couple of slices and fold them, then put on top of chicken) Cover with soup mixture.
About 15 minutes before serving, put a slice of cheese on top and let melt.

Yum! My kids love this :) I probably cook it for 7-8 hours on low. I usually put it in around 10am or so, and it's ready in plenty of time for dinner at 6pm. I like to cook it as long as possible so the chicken is super tender.

That sounds like something my kids would like, also. I'll have to try it! :)

I am going to have to try that. MIL bought us a new crock pot last year but I don't really like it. It's more of a roaster (with a slow cook option) but it tends to burn things. Yesterday, I put chili in at 2 and on slow cook it was burnt at 6:30pm...sad when you are expecting to eat and then you have to make something else.

oops...

Thanks... I think I'll try that on Thursday

:) I hope you like it! Now I feel like I want to have it this week too, lol. I'll have to add the stuff to my shopping list :)
