Florida Anyone?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2007: Florida Anyone?
By Chai~latte on Saturday, September 8, 2007 - 02:47 pm:

We are thinking about a little trip and someone recommended Siesta Key, Florida near Sarasota. Just wondering if anyone has been?

We are planning to go sometime between now and November. What's the weather like between now and November? Anything we should be looking out for?

By Pamt on Saturday, September 8, 2007 - 03:00 pm:

Don't know anything specifically about Siesta Key. I have good friends in Sarasota though. Now to November is hurricane season. I'd rethink the date.

I am in South Florida so I have no info on that area.
I will say that October-November-December are my favorite time of year here. The weather cools off a bit and it is beautiful.
Do not be afraid of hurricane season!

Oh boy! Now what do I do? :) When I read Pam's message I laughed, of course hurricane season is probably not the best time to go, that's why the rates were so great.

I have to call our local weather guy and find out what he thinks.

Thanks ladies, I think. :)

Ditto Yvonne -We've always vacationed to Florida during November or December and the weather is absolutely wonderful then! I've never thought once about hurricane season when vacationing there, since I don't have my life's possessions with me, I guess we never think of it too much.

We have often vacationed in FL in November and never had a problem. And the brutal heat of summer has passed, it's MUCH less crowded then. Though hurricane season officially runs through Nov. 30, it would be rare for a major storm to develop then. The waters just aren't as warm then. October still brings the storm risk, but actually, August and September are the most active hurricane months.

I live about an hour from Sarasota. First it is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!Anna Maria Island is really nice too!

I wouldn't worry about hurricanes in Nov.
The gulf water temps have started to cool off and that is what feeds the storms. But the National Hurricane Center is reforming their predictions for the rest of this year, so check out our local stations for more details. I missed the news report the other day when they made this announcement as a teaser to keep watching. I think it was channel 8, TBO.com Also, I would check out Bay News 9. They cover a wide area of news and during storms this is the station I watch.

AND, you can come see me at my playroom if you are in the mood to make a 1 hr drive one day. There are many other things I could show you around my local area as well, so you wouldn't be coming her just for the playroom.

Oh, and one more thing, we are in a draught because we (the Tampa Bay Area) haven't had any storms this summer. Honestly, except for the past two UNUSUAL years, hurricanes in this area have just been really really bad storms. This past two years hit more than just FL, so I wouldn't let hurricanes be your major reason for changing your visit, unless it was one of those strange weather years.

So did you make your plans?

By Chai~latte on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 04:18 pm:

LOL Dana! No not yet.

We are thinking about replacing our furnace before winter sets in, so the trip may not be until the new year, but thanks for the reminder I'll talk to DH tonight about it.

After Jan is nice too. March-May are very nice. Depending on the weather, Feb can be REALLY cold, even for FL. It was a very very mild winter this past year. Maybe 3 days of REALLY cold all season.
