Ovary pains (Ovarian cysts???)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2007: Ovary pains (Ovarian cysts???)
By Boxzgrl on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 05:40 pm:

I have my annual pap tomorrow so I know i'll get answers then but this is really bugging me.

Ovarian cysts run in my family (among many other female issues) so that is why I wonder if this is my problem. For months now i've had ovarian pains on and off in no particular pattern. I was previously nursing and have the IUD so I don't get a real period. I woke up last night in nearly excruciating pain. Not unbearable but enough to keep me awake and putting pressure on my abdomen to help the pain. For a few days prior to that i've been having a mild discomfort in my lower abdomen. Similar to what pms cramping feels like but not completely. I still feel a bit uncomfortable today to the point of keeping my pants unbuttoned to not irritate it as much. I know i'm jumping the gun in assuming ovarian cysts and unless it's an underlying issue with my IUD, I don't know what else to assume. I'm just glad I finally go to the doctor tomorrow, hopefully for an answer.

In the meantime... advice? Any experiences? Remedies to make me feel better and less sensitive in my lower abdomen? TIA

Motrin has become my best friend! LOL! Good thing you have an appt. with your GYN tomorrow. It could be a lot of different things. They will probably want to do an US to see what's going on.

I have endometrial ovarian cysts. I also have uterine fibroids. My GYN put me on the pill to "quiet down" my pelvis because I was experiencing pain and hemorhaging. I don't like being on the pill, which is why DH got a V two years ago, but at least it's helping with the female issues.

{{{HUGS}}} Stinks being a woman sometimes, doesn't it?!

It sounds like the cysts that I get, but like Trina said it can be a lot of different things. I get a cyst every few months and it goes away on it's own (luckily). Advil, rest, avoid heavy lifting, and a heating pad (for no more than 15-20 min. at the most) works well for me. Good luck with the doctor tomorrow and let us know how it goes.

If you had pain bad enough to wake you up and to describe as almost excruciating - well, yes, I think it is really good that you have your doctor's appointment tomorrow. Yes, it could be an ovarian cyst, but ovarian cysts can rupture. It could be the IUD, and things can go wrong with them also.

Let us know what the doc says. I wound up having to have surgery for an ovarian cyst when I was about 20 - turns out it had swollen to the point where it was larger than an orange. I had all three sons well after that surgery and had absolutely no problem getting pregnant, so obviously I didn't miss it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up going out and buying the Thermacare heat wraps for my abdomen.

I got a hold of my mom today and it seems her symptoms are similar to what i'm feeling. Hopefully it's just the ones that go away over time.

Gotta love being a girl... Sigh. I think I might get my IUD out tomorrow since I know they can cause cysts as well, just to be safe. DH leaves for deployment in 3 weeks anyway so I can take a birth control break and start the pill before he gets home.

I'll let you guys know that the doctor says tomorrow.

I hope you're feeling better and hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

I had forgotten that your DH is due to deploy. How long will he be away?
((Hugs))
