Painting/Decorating Advice

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2007: Painting/Decorating Advice
By Kate on Monday, July 30, 2007 - 12:12 pm:

Okay, I have a fourth bedroom upstairs that we have two computers/desks in, two bookcases, and a twin bed. The desks/bookcases are dark cherry and the lamps are black wrought iron, the computers are both black, and I'm looking at a new black iron/cherry wood headboard. The floors are hardwood in a medium stain.

We just painted the walls a pale sage green which in some lights borders on mint green. My question is this...what color to paint the trim?? Right now the trim is white from before and it looks very nice with the new light sage walls. However, the furniture is not back in yet and I'm wondering if it will look too 'cutesy' once the dark furniture and black accessories are in. The white and green look nice together, but I'm just wondering if it looks too 'girl's bedroomish'. If I change the trim, I would only paint it the same pale sage, no other option as I have the extra paint and I'm looking to not spend any more money. There is one window, a closet, and the door into the room that could stay white or change to the matching green. And when I say trim I am including the closet and room door that would need to either stay white or go sage, too.

What do you think? Do you vote for the white trim or the sage green? The room is 10 X 12 so the all green would maybe make it look larger and not so broken up. Also, with all that furniture in the room is very full.

Thanks!

I say white trim. It is a classic look and not at all cutesy.

I vote white trim also! It's a sharp, clean look.

Ditto the white trim.

Interesting...I thought everyone would vote green because the room is small and cramped! I find the white kind of 'shocking' and wish it were an off white. It's easy enough to live with the white for awhile and change it later, EXCEPT for the base moulding...once that's in place it will be impossible to make it green without pulling all the furniture out again which we do NOT want to do!!

hmmm I am into stained wood trim right now. But if you don't want to buy anything (which i can totally understand!!) I would go with the white too!! However, I would paint the ceiling the sage green, i think...or have them mix it one shade lighter green than the walls??

need more coffee and pictures...lol

When I said *white*, I was thinking white, off-white, cream..........something along that line. I love that look. I used a color called White Dove by Benjamin Moore in my house. We'd had dark stained trim since the house was built and I hated it.

However, I had off-white to cream in mind when I was choosing colors. The color consultant that helped me told me I should give the White Dove a chance. It's *almost* pure white, and I love the way it contrasts with my wall colors.

I would keep the trim white and add pictures and things to the walls to make it look less cutesy. Maybe buy a masculine looking desk lamp? I bet once you get the furniture back in it will look realy nice.
