Moms View Message Board: Secret Santa 2008: Dawn777
Hi Dawn, Wanna know who just found out she's your secret santa and who is very excited about it? You guessed it...ME!! I look forward to spending time with you and talking when we both are able to steal moments. You know how busy it is being a mom. Here's to a wonderful day!
Yeah, I'm at work right now and won't be able to find out about my secret santa mom, until I get home! Argh! Nice to hear from you.
What time do you usually work until? Doing what you do must be challenging sometimes. I don't think too many people are generally too happy at the doctor's office. I'm not very good at knitting. What are the differences between the kinds of yarn you use? If you were asked for a list of things that you would like JUST for you what would be on it? I would love to see a picture of Jasmine, when I was little that was one of my favorite names.
Wool for hats and mittens I made a hat, for some gals to take to an orphanage in Mexico out of Rowan wool cotton. It's so soft. For dishcloths, I use cotton yarn, usually Peaches & Creme or Sugar'n Cream. Acrylic yarn is easy to wash, but doesn't always feel as nice. Some is soft. Some is more scratchy. Sometimes people are really nice, at the clinic and some of them are pretty crabby. You never know what kind of day you will have. The walk-in is open from 7:30am to 7:30pm, but if I work a closing shift, we can be there, usually until 8 or 8:30pm, but even as late as 10:30pm, but that's only happened twice. I fill in for people, so my hours can be all over the board. Sometimes just a morning, sometimes, just an afternoon, or all day. For me? I know my SIL wants a Christmas list. I saw her the other day and didn't have too many ideas. --Cotton yarn is always good. --Contemporary Christian music cds --Elton John greatest hits (yeah, I know. showing my age.) --Shower gel, but not the scent from Bath and Body Works with the cotton on the label. (cotton blossom) Didn't know they had sweet cinnamon pumpkin. Might have to check out the store, to smell that one! Yum! That's a start, anyway.
Here's Jasmine!
That sure makes for a long day!! My son's grandma makes dishcloths out of yarn all the time. They're fabulous and they last for years. I don't think liking Elton John makes you seem your age at all. He's still quite popular. What Christian artists do you like? I have a fair amount of Contemporary Christian music but I love getting recommendations. Jasmine is lovely! How old is she? We always talk about getting a dog but so far we haven't because we're always so busy and aren't 100% sure it would be fair to the dog. If I don't see you over the weekend have a wonderful weekend! I brought some work home with me this weekend and I'm not sure how often I'll get online.
Jasmine is 5. We adopted her from the shelter 4 years ago, and we think she was about 1, when we got her. She was brought in as a stray, so we don't know when her birthday is. We celebrate her birthday on the day we brought her home. I have to get back to you on Christian artists. I have compilations and need to see what people I like. I need to get to bed soon. Went to get Sarah from college this morning, then worked at school, worked at clinic, was home for a little while and had a family get-together this evening. I wasn't home much. I have to work, in the morning, too. So nitey-nite.
Ick! That's one thing I like about my job I never have to work weekends. I do sometimes have to travel for it and stay away overnight but to date that's been rare only once or twice a year. I hope you get some time to relax today! It sounds like you get less time than I do and I don't feel I get very much. I've spent the weekend doing housework and laundry.
Good morning Dawn! It's bright and early and I'm getting for work and wanted to take a minute to wish you a wonderful day.
I'm only obligated to work one Saturday or Sunday a month and some months I don't even get that. I'm casual, so the "scheduled" people have to get their weekend hours first. So, my weekend obligations aren't that bad. On Sunday, though, we had church, then had to drive back to Oshkosh with Sarah, because she had to be ready to play at 1:30pm, but the concert didn't start until 3pm. That was over with about 4:45pm, and then we went to Culver's for supper, dropped Sarah off at her dorm and headed home. We got home around 7pm. I need to get housework and laundry done, but I never seem to have enough time. I'd also like to make some homemade bread, but I have seem to have enough consecutive hours to do that, when I still have enough ambition to do it. My bed needs new sheets, too! LOL!
It wouldn't be so bad to only have to work the occassional weekend. If I was doing that I'd be less likely to be bringing work home during the week. What does Sarah play? I can see how you'd never have enough time with being gone as much as you are! Want me to come and help? I could use a holiday LOL I love to make homemade bread. I too never seem to have the ambition. We own two bread machine and they're wonderful but it's not the same as baking the real thing. I love the whole process. Do you mean to buy new sheets or just change the ones you have on it?
On the laundry note... I always felt like that and I've started making the kids put their clothes down every night to the laundry and doing a load in the evenings when I have a full one. This past weekend I only had 3 loads to do!! I wash dry and fold it and then give it to everyone who it belongs to and they put it away. It seems to help although I'm not sure why it makes such a difference doing it throughout the week. lol I should have done the bedding but I'm doing that this weekend.
For Christian artists: Jars of Clay Casting Crowns Chris Tomlin Third Day Cold and cloudy here today. Temp is still in the 30's, according to my Firefox weather tool. Sarah plays the clarinet. Sure, come and visit! I like making bread, without a bread machine. I had one for a while, but didn't really like it. The loaves get too big. I mean to put clean sheets on my bed.
I'm not familiar with Chris Tomlin but I love Jars of Clay and Casting Crowns. It was sunny here today and quite warm when I came home. That's unusual weather for us this time of year. I too like making bread without a bread machine. My partner likes the bread machine. I agree the loaves come out quite big and it's not the same feeling of satisfaction as if you make them yourself. I'll be washing bedding and changing sheets this weekend. I try to keep the amount of housework I do during the week to minimum; with working all day I like to try to spend time in the evenings with my kids. What are your plans for the rest of the week?
Working. I have to work at school tomorrow (11:30am to 1pm), and then at the clinic from 2-5:30pm. We usually go knitting at church, for about an hour, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Thursday and Friday have no school. Thursday clinic hours from noon to 5pm and then we go knitting at a yarn store, for a few hours in the evening. Friday, I'm only supposed to work 7:30pm to Noon, but the lead nurse asked me if I would work the afternoon. I don't have to say yes, but it would probably be an easier afternoon if I come in. Only thing is that Emily is home from school. I'm on the fence. I guess a few more hours on my paycheck would be nice. The weekend isn't quite as heavily planned as was last weekend. Sarah won't be coming home, so no trips to and from Oshkosh. Oshkosh is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away, from our house. It's about 55 miles or so, but a lot of it is a 2-lane road, that is hilly, curvy and only 55mph, so it's a slow drive.
Your week sounds like mine. Work and more work. Tomorrow evening I have a meeting in the evening so it's going to be a long day and I probably won't get home until approximately 9 or 9:30. Normally on the day after a meeting like that my boss would let me come in late the next day but I have another meeting Friday morning. Yesterday I had 3 consequetive (sp?) meetings 9:30, 10:30 and 12:30 which in itself made for a long day. We are short 1 staff person on holidays this week so my work load has doubled. That road sounds like one we have here. It's awful to drive especially in the winter and people get injured/killed on it often because they don't obey the limits posted. My partner always drives when we have to go that way because he's a much more experienced driver than I am and it's safer he thinks. What are you guys doing for halloween? Do your kids go out? Do you dress up? I always dress up with my little ones for halloween but this year they're going to a halloween party at a friends instead of trick or treating so I won't be this year.
My kids don't go out. Sarah isn't here, since she's at college. She said tonight, that she doesn't have anything planned for Halloween. We get a little candy, in case we get some trick or treaters. We live on a weird street, with only one other house, so hardly anyone wanders down to our house. The house to the south of us, faces the cross street, so, they face south. We face west. Emily and I carved our pumpkins tonight. I posted a picture on the Photo Sharing board. Yikes, you sound busy. I just worked a 3-1/2 hour shift, at the clinic today and we were just busy enough, that time flew, without me watching the clock at all!
I'm still debating whether to pick up candy or not for our street. Last year we weren't living in the house we're in now and not sure how many children we'll get and with the little ones having other plans I'm not in the halloween spirit. We have more than 1 house on our street but not too many of them appear to have children on them. Well today I've been at work since 6:30am and it's almost 6 now. I have a meeting at 6:30 that goes until about 8:30 and it will be about 9:30ish before I get home. Thankfully tomorrow is a quieter day. It sounds like the location of your house would make for a perfectly spooky halloween house!
It's not that creepy. We're not on a dead-end street. It's just them middle of a block. Emily was going to get the pumpkins set up and have the candy ready.
We had just one group of 4 trick-or-treaters. They were the 4 boys who live across the street from us. The oldest is 10 and the youngest is about 3-1/2. Mom was watching from their driveway. Even the youngest one remembered to say thank you. They are a refugee family from Africa and have been here about 5 years. This is the first time I've seen the boys out trick-or-treating. They weren't wearing costumes, but I don't think there's extra money in their house for costumes. I think they're getting more "Americanized!" I only saw them go to a few houses on our street.
That sounds like how things were on my street last night. Only 8 trick or treaters My old house used to get lots and lots and it was so fun. We're going to visit my brother in law today which is a first usually he comes here to visit us. It's a bit of a distance away so it should be fun. We'll get to see our nephew which will be great!
Have fun seeing your nephew! We needed to get a piece of paper from Sarah today, to prove to the health insurance people that they do need to put her back on the health insurance, because she IS a full-time college student. We have been struggling with that this past week. So, we took her out to lunch and then ran some other errands and went home. It was a nice day out. Emily stayed home. Even though a lot of trees are already bare, there still are a lot of pretty trees out there, yet. Remember to set your clocks back tonight.
Hi Dawn! It was so fun. The weather was miserable but we haven't seen them in so long. He's growing so big! He'll be four on Christmas eve. He enjoyed seeing his cousin too. LOL! I still haven't set all my clocks back just the one in my room and of course the computer ones reset automatically. It sounds like you had a nice day. I hope you're relaxing today.
Yeah, I got to relax today. My SIL does reflexology and I've been going to see her. I get a special foot bath, which is helping the fungus in my toenails and the reflexology is so relaxing. I came home and took a nap. It seems I bear a lot of my stress in my neck and shoulders and she always gets it loosened up again. If I didn't know that my neck and shoulders were all tight, I sure notice that they are loose, when I leave. Sometimes my neck gets so tight, I can barely turn my head.
Good morning Dawn! I'm so happy that you got time to relax. Reflexology sounds heavenly. You sound like my dh that's where he carries all his stress too. I'm out of town again tomorrow and won't be back until next week but I'm hoping to be able to get to a computer while I'm away. I might take our office laptop if my boss ok's it. I'm hoping to do some shopping for you while I'm away ;)
Have a safe trip. I'm assuming this is business, so not like a vacation. Where do you get to go?
We're heading over to the west coast for a conference that is of course related to my job. It should be fun. There are a lot of people that I work with here that are also attending so I'll know people there. The nicest part about it is that when I get back I get some days off and I can spend them with my dk's and dh. That is the part I'm looking forward to the most. Is the time change messing up your sleep schedule? It sure is mine. I usually wake up around 5:15 in the morning and now I'm getting up and my clock says 4:15 which is pretty awful even though I know it's really 5:15. It wouldn't be so bad if everything that's going on ended an hour earlier...but really when the clock says 3 it's really 4 etc. In my mind that hour is just gone. Even if I go to bed at 10 when I would normally go at 11 it's still 11! I don't know if that all makes sense but it does to me. I probably aren't losing time it just seems like I am until I get used to the difference in time again.
The trip sounds like fun, but spending time with family, even moreso. The time change doesn't bug me that much. Emily said it's been messing her up, though.
The trip was lonely! lol It was so weird to be away and in a hotel room alone. I'm happy to be home. How is your weekend going?
I'm sorry you had a lonely week. It must be nice to be back with your family. My weekend is going well. Sarah came home this weekend, because we were taking pictures for a new church directory. We went to see Sweeney Todd at the high school, on Friday. They did a nice job, but it's not really a family-friendly play. So, the girl who's had a lead part in the last 3 high school musicals, wants to pursue a theater career. I think she could go far. She's so good. Our 2 high schools work together for one musical, because it's expensive to put on a musical. So, they have two casts, for the lead parts, so more people get to be in the lead parts. They take turns. We got lucky and saw our favorite girl in a lead part on Friday. She's a senior, so it was the last one. So, the lead people are A or B. On their off nights, they are in the chorus. Sarah was in the pit orchestra 2 years ago, for Crazy for You. I went to see the play at least 4 times. I'm a lunchlady, so I get a courtesy card and I don't have to pay. It was interesting to see the differences in each performance, and see how the different leads to things a little differently. The last few years, I've gone at least twice, so I could see both casts. Sweeney Todd isn't my favorite, though, so just once is enough. Another pair of small high schools are putting on "High School Musical, and that's next weekend. I might see if Emily wants to see that one. Today, my choir had to sing and it was the end of our stewardship campaign, so I went to both church services and the potluck afterwards. We got to sing one of my favorite songs today: Shout to the North! Gary is running an errand, and then we will take Sarah back to school. Cold today. It was snowing ever so lightly, when we drove home from church.
Would you like a clue as to who I am? It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. I was a bit shocked when I saw the sweeney todd movie. It was a bit disturbing. HIgh School Musical should be fun. What is a stewardship campaign? The snow must be so pretty! I love going for walks in the snow when it's snowing lightly but not incredibly cold
Yes, I would like a clue. Stewardship is when people pledge how much money they will be donating to the church, over the next year. We didn't get any snow accumulation, but it was definitely falling.
The wonderful men in our lives share the same first name. *grins* Oh! Snow is prettiest when it's falling or freshly fallen afterwards it just gets dirty and slushy. I find something peaceful about snowfall and freshly fallen snow. The whole world seems quieter somehow.
We are both married to Garys?? How funny! We don't talk much about spouses' names on here. I like walking in gently falling snow. It is quieter. The snow absorbs all the sound. Even cars driving by, are quieter. In a snowstorm, though, when the wind is whipping everything around, is a whole different story. On February 6th, we had a huge snowstorm. I had to work at the clinic, but then they closed the clinic. I had to walk home. My uniform pants were soaked. I only live a 5-minute walk from the clinic (in normal weather.) I think that day it took me longer, though. Snowstorm Pics We ended up with 16.5 inches that day. The pics were taken right after I got home from the clinic.
OMG! That's a lot of snow... I know we don't talk about spouses names much that's why it's your first clue ;) I have more than two children but less than 10. ;) Our house has a lot of testosterone running around in it! My apologies for not writing sooner. I just returned to work today and I should probably be at home even now as I'm not feeling so hot but I have a few meetings I couldn't miss so I'm here. How have things been the last couple of days?
Good. It's been in the 40's, so fairly comfortable outside. We have a chance of snow, over the weekend. I've had a cold, but it seems to be getting better. About 2 days ago, I was thinking maybe I should go to the doctor, but not anymore. So, a lot of males at your house, huh? It must counter the overload of estrogen at my house. I think Sarah is glad she's going to school in Oshkosh and not Madison. The biggest dorm in Madison has been overrun with Norovirus. It's a nasty virus that causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, for a day or two. Ugh. I got it 3 years ago, right before Christmas, right after a girl at school threw up. That was a Tuesday. I got sick on Thursday and I think Gary got sick on Sunday and wrecked his Christmas. Then I got back to work after Christmas and found out that two of the doctors I work with had gotten sick, too. At the time, it was running rampant through the nursing homes, too. The little gal who got sick in the bathroom was in kindergarten at the time and now she's a 3rd grader, so it must have been right before Christmas in 2005. It is amazing how fast that one can spread.
I'm glad you're getting better! I was thinking I would have to go to the doctor too. The last couple of days I've had flu like symptoms but it seems to be improving so we'll see. I don't know what would be worse...lots of estrogen or lots of testosterone. I look at my dd and think that I prefer the testosterone LOL! She's a handful but she's a lot of fun too. That Norovirus sounds like what my boss had although she also had headaches. I remember being sick over Christmas a few years ago also! It was probably the worst Christmas I had. I have a few questions: Do you drink coffee, tea, hot chocolate? Do you have any allergies or things you absolutely do NOT like besides jewellery (which I never remember to put on either), perfumes (which I would never send because that's such a personal choice), and I sure know what you mean about not having time to burn candles! I am preparing to go shopping for you this weekend and I have a few ideas but I'd love to have more believe me I know how hard it is to come up with ideas for things you'd like. I have the same problem. I've been looking at your blog and how fun it seems. I rarely feel I have time for something like that but maybe one of these days.
I like to drink tea and chai lattes. Chai lattes are a spiced tea (cinnamon, nutmeg - yum!). That's what I get, when I go to a coffee shop. I'm really not much of a coffee person, although, I can handle a flavored latte, but certainly not plain coffee. I like the smell of it brewing, but I don't like to drink it. I'm allergic to dust mites and mold. Scents don't bother me, though. Please no candles. I already have too many. My blog: I'm way behind on getting finished knitted objects photographed. We've had some gray, gloomy days lately and that doesn't inspire me to photograph anything, since the pictures would be so dark. Something I would really like is card stock printer paper. It's heavier than regular printer paper, so the cards look more like something you'd get at the store. I'm so bad about getting cards sent out, to my family. I should have mailed my mom's birthday card yesterday, but I had to work and didn't have time. Her birthday is tomorrow! Argh. I already have the card! LOL! Dishcloth cotton is always nice, too. Sugar'n Cream (Hobby Lobby, Michael's) or Peaches & Creme (Walmart) I belong to a Yahoo group, where we knit 2 dishcloths a month. I haven't bought any yarn in a while, because I've had enough on hand, but new colors are always nice. I like the multi-colored ones and don't have too many of those right now. I'm not picky. Surprise me.
mmmmmmmm chai lattes are soooo yummy! One thing to try when you're at a coffee shop if they have it there is a london fog. It's made with earl grey tea (my favorite tea), steamed milk and vanilla flavoring. It's a nice change from plain tea. I like to have tea in the evenings when I'm reading a book. Coffee for me is a must have in the mornings! lol My favorite coffee when I buy out is an extra hot, extra whip white chocolate mocha however they're almost $5 for a big one and I don't do it often. I drink plain coffee with lots of cream and sugar in it at home but it's organic free trade and has to be strong and I grind the beans at home myself. We pay about $20 for 2 pounds of it but I normally make it at work in the morning so it lasts us a long time, probably about two weeks. I'm really bad about sending out cards too! I'm happy I'm not the only one. I like being surprised too! I'm going to have so much fun shopping for you. Have you thought at all of who I might be? I've been really careful about what I say. I've been really active on the board lately and there are so many things that could slip that would tell you right away who I am. I think I might have figured out who mine is but I haven't told her and that was just because of one thing she said.
So, you're a frequent poster, have both boys and a girl. I don't have a clue yet. How many kids do you have?
altogether we have 5 currently I'm a frequent poster. I have spurts though where I'm just too busy. I've been with momsview since before it was momsview ;) That should be a pretty big clue! Sure keeps us busy with both of us working full time!
Are you the mom with a little boy who was adopted from China? This boy likes to draw rainbows.
Nope! ohhhhhhh I almost posted without hitting anon
I forgot, on about the second day, already. Sheesh. I'm so bad about that. I gotta think of someone else with a houseful of kids. I'm blanking, though!
hehe! I don't think it's even in my profile how many little ones there are in our house. I'd have to look. I'm so glad I haven't forgotten yet but the last time was sooo close! I'm really looking forward to going shopping for you tomorrow.
LOL! Look at that....my children distracted and I know that's something I can't go back and change *sighs*
Actually, I didn't notice that you'd messed up and I had just peeked at your profile. You don't mention how many kids you have, but I was just suspecting you!
That's toooo funny!! Well now you know which of course tells you we have a new puppy and all the other things I've posted about.
How are you today? I haven't been feeling well but I'm going to work today after seeing my doctor it seems that I should be ok doing that. She thinks it's more stress related than anything else.
What kind of puppy did you get? I don't remember. It's hard to get rid of the stress, sometimes. I have to work at school and then the afternoon, at my clinic job. It was 18 degrees here this morning, when I woke up. Now, it's in the high 20's. My car is getting a new seatbelt assembly today. It wasn't automatically retracting, when I got out of the car, and that was getting annoying. My car is a 1998 Ford Taurus, so it is a 10-yo car, but we've only had it since about 2003, and it replaced a 1988 Chevy Celebrity, that was hit by a deer, in December of 2002. ($3200 worth of damage, to a car worth about $500.) For some reason, we still had collision on the Celebrity, so the insurance company did give us $1500 for the old car. We put that towards the purchase of the Taurus.
She's a lab rotti cross although my neighbour thinks a bit of shepard too I agree it is hard to get rid of the stress!! Did you get your car all sorted out? I just bought a new car this year. It's a saturn astra xr...I love it! It's small and zippy and fun. Tomorrow I'm at a workshop all day on marketing type stuff that my company is sending me on so I won't have access to my computer until the evening. I hope you're having a great day!
Oh yeah. My new seatbelt is awesome. My old one was getting hard to pull out and this one pulls out and retracts, so easily now! I'm thinking that the old seat belt was getting to be a little dangerous. Over the weekend, it was making me worried, but the new one is great. I'll be too busy to be on the computer, too. I have to work at school, have an hour and 20 minutes off, then work 3-1/2 hours at the clinic. After supper, Emily and I go to our knitting group and it's the owner's birthday tomorrow, so it should be fun. Have fun. I'm glad you like your Saturn Astra. Our cars have all been around a few years. Saturn SL2 1999, 1998 Ford Taurus, but I've only had it since Feb 2003, and a VW Passat TDI 2005 (picked up on 12-31-04, the same day that Emily had her appendix out.) The VW was a treat for hubby, with money he got after his dad died. It's the "baby" car and is only driven on weekends. It's a diesel car and mileage is in the 40's! My SIL wants to have Thanksgiving and now my sister just called for my side of the family! AAaahahahh! I don't know what time my SIL was planning on having her time. I just emailed her. Well, I'm off to make some pumpkin bread. It's 9:35pm here, but my daughter called and I was looking for a recipe, so time has passed and I haven't started yet. Hope you have a good day tomorrow, too!
mmmmm pumpkin bread! That sounds yummy! I'm glad your seatbelt is working properly now. Isn't it crazy when both sides of the family want to do Thanksgiving? My MIL always does it for the family and before I was with Gary it was me who did it. I sure miss it but I'm always told I can't take it away from Oma so I always just end up doing a small dinner for our immediate family but its not quite the same...lol (This is me whining) My Astra is great on gas. It holds 45 litres and I use it to drive to work, schools, shopping everything and it lasts me two weeks (over 400 km's). It was so nice to sleep in a bit today! Usually I'm up by 5 and I just woke now
It is crazy to do two Thanksgivings, but we haven't had to do that for a while. You really can't eat two big meals in one day. On the other hand, I barely get to see my sisters and my parents, so I'd like to see them, too. That's pretty good that your gas lasts two weeks. I fill my Taurus about once a week, but it doesn't get that great of mileage, in the city.
We usually pick two different days. I would find it impossible to eat 2 big meals in one day! I'm not sure how long it would last on the highway. Of course it's supposed to be better than on the highway but I haven't taken it on a long road trip yet. What do you have planned for the weekend?
Right now, sleeping! It's 12:30am and I just got home from my book discussion. I wanted to leave earlier, but I rode out to the house, with other friends, so I couldn't leave until they left! I'll write more in the morning.
LOL! I couldn't imagine getting home that late. What book are you reading for your discussion? I hope the rest of your weekend was fabulous.
The book was Ramona, by Helen Hunt Jackson. It's a love story, but it also touches on the way the American government treated the Indians in the 1800s, by taking their land from them left and right, at least in California. It was written in 1886, or something like that. Our book for December is Eat, Pray, Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert. I had it from the library, but life has been crazy and I haven't had much time to read. The book has 3 parts and I only got 2 read. The book was due October 31st and I was trying to get it read before I took it back, but I still had the last section to read and I'd already racked up $4 in fines, as it is, so I took it back today and then came home and requested the title again. I even requested the large-print version, because I'll probably get it more quickly. The library system has 23 copies of the normal version, but there are 4 requests for the title, including mine, so I don't know when I'll get it. The large print version has 4 copies, only 1 is checked out and there are no requests for that one. She's on a quest to find herself, after a nasty divorce. She spends 4 months each, in Italy eating and practicing her Italian, then 4 months in India meditating and eliminating the baggage from her life. The last part is with an Indonesian medicine man. She'd actually met the medicine man 2 years earlier and told her she should come back. When she does, he can tell she's different, and happier. Must must must finish this book. Dust Jacket Text for book I was ready to book a flight to Italy, after reading the first part! Yummy.
Oh yeah, I wasn't finished. After going to bed around 1am, and waking up around 7am, Gary and I are hanging out in bed, just talking. He had just gone to get the paper. There are articles about the deer hunting season had just started. At 8:52am, I remember that I'm supposed to be at my church's craft fair, with Emily, to sit at the table where you take the money as people come in, or make sure they brought a food item for the food pantry. We both needed to take showers, so it's still a while, before we get there. It ended up not being a big deal that we were late. I like doing the "door" thing, because Emily and I can sit there all day and knit. Last week was my mid-month dishcloth knit-a-long, and I was behind on that. So, I got it finished. It's a hidden picture of a candy cane. I took pictures and will be uploading to Flickr soon. It was our 6th annual November craft fair! We had people in almost every nook and cranny of our church. Then we ate supper at Applebee's. We had a $20 gift card, because Gary took the picture for my clinic department, for our annual Christmas card. Today, we just had church and had a lazy afternoon. It was a nice day. Overnight, we have a chance for 2 inches of snow. I'll keep you posted. I was kind of tired last evening, because I'd had a busy day on Friday and then a quick start to Saturday. I barely had time to sit and think on Friday. I'd forgotten completely about the craft fair, until Saturday morning. That's what no downtime will do to you! LOL!
Dishcloths knitted this year. The candy-cane one, was the one I finished on Saturday. We got 2 inches of snow today! So, the weathermen were right.
Those are great! I've never seen them made with patterns always just various yarn colours Snow! I'm jealous. It sooo rarely snows here. I love going to craft fairs but here they're normally a couple of hours away..not localized and usually I'm so happy to have a weekend to relax I don't want to go too far. lol Off to work in a few minutes.
Thanks! I love being part of this online group. All those dishcloths are from a Yahoo group. We do 2 dishcloths a month, one on the first and one on the 16th. They take about 5-6 days to do, and we get about 10 rows a day. I think it's a blast making mystery cloths! Emily started in the group, in 2007, but then moved on to knitting other things, and lost interest. I've done every cloth since Mid-April '07.
I've been shopping for you There is one more thing I want to find and I'm hoping to have your package in the mail by this weekend which should be plenty of time. I've always shipped to the US about this far in advance and it's always made it so I'm xx (crossing) my fingers Since April 07! My gosh.
I'll be waiting. I'm going to go shopping on Friday night or Saturday for my presents, and hopefully get it shipped late Saturday morning. Went to the grocery store with $80 tonight. The groceries for Thanksgiving came and supper tomorrow night, came to $76, but then she scanned my store saver card and it was down to $66-something. Sarah looked at the receipt and we saved $9.49! Wow. So, we even splurged on Clementines (little oranges) and still saved that much! I'm only making side dishes, too!
I took some time on Sunday to go shopping. Gary took the puppy and went to visit one of his friends. (I want to show her off is how he put it). lol Don't you love it when you go to the store and get everything you need/want and save money!? I know I do. I missed thanksgiving dinner this year as we were out of town. This weekend we have a friends b'day party to go too and the weekend after that I have a Christmas Party and it's my b'day weekend and I know that before I know it Christmas will be here. Every year I say I'm going to get more organized and do my shopping throughout the year but it never happens and then I'm not prepared and it's a rush! I have to admit I'm glad I didn't do that this year because of our house being broken into they may have hit those items too...and that would have been worse then what they did take from my point of view.
I'm like you. We still have most of our Christmas shopping to do.
We're almost off to our first Thanksgiving celebration. Hope you're having a great day.
Ohhhh! Turkey! Send me some. It's pretty busy today. We're a non profit membership based association and we're in the middle of our membership renewals. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Oh yeah. It's a normal work day for you. I bet membership renewal time is very busy!
yup! We have 1250 regular members, 140 associate members and 20 affiliate members. They all get letters, invoices and update forms for information updates. It's CRAZY!! How were your dinners?
They were both delicious. DH is cranky now, because he's tired and had hardly any time at home. I'm about to iron a scrub top for work tomorrow and I'm going to bed.
Awwwwwwwww I know that feeling it's hard when you want to relax and you are out and about a lot. How was your day today?
I had to go to the ER on Wednesday night, for a bladder infection. By the time I realized I had one, all the lesser places I could have gone were closed for the day and would be closed for the holiday, too. Hate to pay that $150 copay, but what are you going to do? They said I definitely had one and gave me antibiotics. I guess I'm finding out that I really shouldn't take the Cipro at the same time as my blood pressure meds. Ugh. It makes me nauseous, especially on an empty stomach. If I separate the two, by about an hour, this doesn't happen. I've done it twice now, where I've tried to take them all at once, but ugh. The combination just isn't good. (Not throwing up, but just feel that way.) Probably TMI. Anyway, the burning and frequency has long gone away, though, so the antibiotics are working. The really good news is that we were only at the ER, about an hour!
Oh no! I hope you're feeling sooo much better. They are so painful Only an hour in the ER that's great! Whenever we have to go to the ER (few and far between) it's never been that short it's generally much longer. $150 co pay? What's that mean? Here whenever I've gone to the ER we haven't had to pay anything...same with trips to the doctor/dentist etc.
We pay $150 of the ER visit and the insurance company pays the rest. For an office visit, it would have only been a $20 copay. We don't have nationalized health insurance down here. I think they don't want people to go to the more expensive ER, for frivolous things. I only have 2 more pills to take and it doesn't hurt anymore.
Oh! I agree having people go to the ER for frivolous things isn't a great thing. Here waiting lists for just about anything are long. I'm glad it doesn't hurt anymore I'm feeling a bit melancholy the last little while. They winters here are fairly grey and rainy and around this time of the year seems the worst. It's my birthday in a few days and it just doesn't seem like it. I started my Christmas shopping this weekend for the kids and my dh which was fun but it was a pretty quiet weekend. What did you do this weekend?
We did some shopping on Saturday, went out to eat with friends, for supper, on Saturday night. Kids stayed home home ordered pizza. They didn't want to come with us. Sunday was church, Advent breakfast, taking Sarah back to Oshkosh in crappy weather, but I skipped going to second service at church, even though my choir was singing, so we could get a headstart on the storm. Then Emily had to be at school, at 4:15pm, to get ready for the Christmas parade. They still had it last night, even though it was snowing big wet fluffy snowflakes. I was so cold. I'm glad there's only one more I have to go to. Gary's Pictures and parade article DH works as a newspaper photographer.
That sounds like fun! Busy but fun. The pictures were great! I really hope that everything turns out ok with his work. I will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts.
Thanks! Playing my piano really helped tonight!
ohhh you play the piano!? That's my dream instrument to learn to play...have I done anything about it though? NO lol I always feel I don't have the time with everything I commit to in the rest of my life..besides I'd have to own one if I learned to play it! Have you heard anything about his work yet?
Yes. He wasn't on the list, so he still has a job! I love playing my piano, but I don't always take the time.
That's great!! I'm soo happy to hear that It's sad news for those who were What an awful time of the year for all this to be going on. I'm really going to try to get your package in the mail on Saturday. Things have been so crazy I haven't had time.
No problem. I mailed Bea's package on Tuesday at 5:45pm and it was delivered at 3:40pm today. I also mailed a package to Sarah, who is just a little over an hour away. She got her package yesterday morning.
Wow! That was fast! I sure hope that our mail service is that fast. In previous years it's only taken about a week so I'm pretty sure you'll get it on time.
Did you mail it yet?
Dawn it's going out today. I spoke to the post office by phone yesterday and they have assured me we can have it on time. I hurt my foot really badly on the weekend(met a chair and broke my little toe and the one next to it) and just got to the point where I can hobble around today. Some birthday gift to myself LOL I'm so sorry about the delay
Ouch. I'm sorry. Hope it feels better soon. I'll be waiting for my gift. We still have plenty of time, before the opening date.
It's feeling a bit better but I'm hobbling LOL I have some great news I hobbled down to the post office today and your package should be arriving early next week. I sent it for 3-4 days and it will be going out this afternoon/evening sometime so I anticipate you'll have it by Wednesday. How are you doing?
Good. We had a beautiful sunny day, today, without any snow. The temp was around 30F/-1C, so just below freezing. It actually felt warm (well, somewhat warm. The wind was still cold on my face.) Tomorrow's high will only be 16F/-8C. Ugh.
Well we got that sort of temperature. It's currently -4 and we have snow! It snows about once a year here and actually stays then warms up and rains again. The road in front of our house is pure ice tomorrow morning I'll be testing out my new car on that kind of surface for the first time. I'm a bit nervous but I leave early in the morning and there are no other cars at that time so I can drive slower than normal and I'm sure it will be fine. We spent most of the weekend shopping for Christmas. I'm sorry I didn't get on to say hi sooner the snow knocked out the power in our area last night and we spent the entire night with candles going and no heat brrrrrrrrrr. We ended up leaving and going to Walmart for a while to do some shopping at about 11 just to get some warmth and lights then came back and took the dog for a walk until about 2am. lol It was pretty cool to be walking around in the dark and sooooo quiet. Tess loves the snow! She was so funny playing in it with us. She's never seen it until yesterday and she kept burying her nose in it and waiting for us to kick it up so she could bite it!! Soooooooo cute. Anyway off to get the little ones tucked in, continue doing laundry and take a bath to try to relax for a while it's been such a busy weekend. Talk to you soon
Ugh. It's single digits here and WINDY! Gary can drive me to the clinic this afternoon, but I have a 5-minute walk home. I'm not looking forward to it. I'll have to bring my sweatpants to throw over my thin uniform pants, to walk home. No heat? Yuck. I have to get some laundry done today. I did a load last night, so I'd have clean clothes today.
Catherin, my package arrived today, but I'll have to go to the post office to pick it up after work this afternoon. No one was here, when the mailman came. Thanks! Just wanted to let you know that it arrived.
The package is in my house now. Thanks! I'm very intrigued now, but I will wait.
I'm so happy you received your package on time The suspense would be killing me and if you open it early I won't tell anyone *eg* Mine isn't here yet but we still have a few mail days for it to arrive. I'm so excited. How have things been? We're in a deep freeze. A bunch of snow has been dumped on our city and we are ill equipped to deal with it. All the side streets are sheets of ice covered in snow although the main roads are pretty good because they are focusing on those. It's supposed to snow again on sunday and we may hit some records in temperature drops. We rarely get snow and have it stay but this time it looks like it's around for a while. Realistically it will probably be gone in two weeks but in the meantime it's a disaster. Cars in ditches, BIG trucks in ditches, nobody getting up some of the bigger hills in the city and saddest of all people living on the streets trying to keep warm and some of them dying. Last year a man died when the gas stove he was using to cook and keep warm exploded and I just heard on the radio this morning that a woman died when the fire she had going outside in her "shelter" caught and... They're saying they spoke to her and offered her shelter and help and she continued to decline it. It's so sad. A lot of people who are homeless land here because we are probably the warmest canadian province in the winter but when weather like this hits people start dying and it breaks my heart and makes me wonder if we are doing enough...
That is sad. We got about 8-10 inches of snow here, today, but we have the plows and salt to clean up after it quickly. My road was plowed already, when I got up at 6 this morning. However, the driveway was another matter. I started this post, then went up and got my present. My hubby would have approved of the thorough taping job you had on there! LOL! He gets compliments for secure packaging, when he ships things, for Ebay! LOL! Thanks for the lovely gifts. Our local cancer treatment clinic is in need of prayer shawls, so I might use one of the patterns in the book. Thanks for the pretty yarn, too. I'll enjoy knitting dishcloths with some of that, over the coming year. Also, the purple printing paper is so pretty! I'll look forward to using that, too! I'm very pleased. If the present opening is on Sunday evening, I'm going to be doing Christmas with my side of the family, so I wouldn't be here, anyway.
hehe LOL! I learned the thorough taping from my sister in law She tapes every single edge possible. I also do that at work when I have to ship things out to our members so they don't get torn up in the mail I'm so pleased you like your gifts! I did want to add one more thing but I couldn't find the "perfect" one. I thought the prayer shawls book was a great idea and that you would be aware of somewhere that could use one. I wanted to send you yarn for that too and I couldn't find a single one I liked enough that I thought was the right type according to what the book said. I was thinking of your mom's card when I picked out the paper I have loved being your secret santa and now we're on facebook together. I look forward to seeing your clothes that you make with the yard I sent and of course if you make a prayer shawl I would love to see pictures! I'm going to try to learn to knit more than I can...I would love to make myself a shawl with a pretty soft yarn...I am always wrapping up because I'm cold even when our heat is on I might trouble you to send me the easiest pattern in the book to practice with! To date I can put stitches on and just do a normal knitting stitch lol I'm not certain I remember how to cast off though! If I get good enough then I think I will take up making them here. I know of a lot of places here that would make good use of them
The rectangular one looked pretty easy. One pattern for a prayer shawl is a stitch combination of 6, and it's about 54 stitches across, to K3, P3, to the end. Then do the opposite in the next row, P3, K3, to the end. Just keep doing that, until it's long enough. Working on a prayer shawl would keep me warm, while I was working on it.
