Wall e

Moms View Message Board: Books, Movies and TV Shows: Wall e
By Kaye on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 08:36 am:

okay so I went to see this over the weekend. Two thumbs down from the adults in our house!

I am so suprised by all the critics ratings. I know for sure my kids didn't get the message that was trying to be sent. My kids got the message that anything we do is undoable.

Anyway, just wanted to pass the word on. The movie is well animated, but slow. It is over an hour and half. There are less that 100 words in first hour of the movie. No real dialog. Everything you get is from pictures and one word "wall e", "wall e" "ev.." "ev.." "eva", etc. I only stayed awake because I just knew it was the set up. The robot personalities were cute, but really underdeveloped.

Well, I was going to take the kids this week...but now, maybe not. If we do go, I'll let you know what we think about it.

By Jackie on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 01:50 pm:

We saw it over the weekend. We are a family of 5,and I was the only one who did not like it LOL..my husband and kids loved it. For me, I like talking/dialog, like Kaye said, the first part of it there is no talking. It was driving me crazy. It seems most people do like it, I am in the minority who did not care for it.

This was one of the movies on our list for weekend movies. I wanted to see it, but my son opted to see wanted instead. So thats what we saw. But all during the movie he kept asking can we go see Hancock Now.

By Reds9298 on Monday, June 30, 2008 - 09:47 pm:

We're planning to see Wall-e the weekend after the 4th. DH and I aren't sure about it, but Natalie has seen so many previews that she's really excited about it. I'm not sure what to think. I feel like I don't have the best idea of what the story is about. I'm really interested to see what we think.

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 - 04:38 pm:

My kids are dying to see Wall-e too. All I hear from my ds is (in that voice) "WaaAAALLLL-EEEE"

I have no clue what the movie is about, like everyone else. I don't really want to see it. But then I didn't want to see Kung Fu Panda either, and I ended up liking that.

I will definitely let my kids know that there won't be really any talking for the first half of the movie. (which sounds very boring to me)

I'd much rather spend my $$ on Hancock or a movie that I know will be good!

We just returned from seeing Wall-e. The three of us really enjoyed it! Lara was captivated by Wall-e, and I actually liked the lack of dialogue in the beginning. I'm not sure she got the whole meaning of the movie, but it gave us something to talk about with her later.
It's a very hot, smokey day here, so the theatre was full of all ages, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the movie.:-)

We really enjoyed it as well! I thought the lack of dialog was perfect for the movie, and I really didn't notice it. There was so much going on all the time, dialog wasn't really needed. Natalie really enjoyed it. Like your dd Nicki, I'm not sure Natalie understood the big point of it, but we've talked so much about it since then that it's turned into a good 'green' conversation.

I think the movie presented where we're heading right now (destroying the planet) in an extreme way. Everyone gave up and then realized it was worth not giving up on. They worked together to un-do the mess they had made. I think that's what we're all trying to do right now with the state of our environment and where it's heading. I thought it was a very true representation. We really enjoyed it!

One of my favourite short videos for kids is The Snowman. Other than a few sentences being narrated at the beginning, there is no speaking throughout. I have never known a child who was not completely mesmerized by the movie.
My kids are getting a bit old to be asking me to see movies like Wall E, but I'll be sure to rent it when it comes out, to see what it's all about.

By Nicki on Sunday, July 13, 2008 - 09:46 pm:

Marcia, I love The Snowman movie! Actually, it has made me teary eyed at the very end. I think it's well done. Lara likes it, too.

Deanna, I agree with your summary of the movie. We talked to Lara about the movie and it helped us all think about the fact that we can't take our world for granted. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie as well! Lara loved that Wall-e had a pet bug. She is still talking about it.:-)

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, July 13, 2008 - 10:31 pm:

Is that the snowman with the little boy? I love that book. The book has no words, just pictures, but you still "get" the story, without the words. My kids loved that book, too.

By Marcia on Sunday, July 13, 2008 - 10:39 pm:

Yes, that's the same one, Dawn. We have the book, too.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, July 14, 2008 - 09:40 am:

Sarah thought it was that Wall-E was the cutest thing ever. She really liked the movie. So did hubby.

By Luvn29 on Monday, July 14, 2008 - 11:19 am:

Is it just me, or did they rip off Johnny Five from Short Circuit!!!

By Enchens on Monday, July 14, 2008 - 12:34 pm:

Luvn, That's the first thing I thought when I saw the previews for it!

By Annie2 on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 06:28 pm:

I took my 11 ds to see this today. We both enjoyed it. I thought of Short Circuit, too, when I saw the previews.

By Reds9298 on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - 11:03 pm:

Adena, my DH said the same thing as soon as he saw the first preview! LOL Fortunately though it's nothing the same, so I didn't even think of Short Circuit during the movie.

I love the Snowman book and I think I've seen the video once or twice. I just hate it because the hardback is oversized and doesn't fit in my bookshelf!

By Bea on Saturday, July 26, 2008 - 12:28 am:

We took our 11 year old grand daughter to see it. Karl and I liked it and she thought it was BOORRIINNGG!!!
