Saddam's hanging responsible for boys deaths

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): Saddam's hanging responsible for boys deaths

What do you think about this? Deaths around the world are being blamed on the hanging of Saddam. Young boys are hanging themselves from bunkbeds, ceiling fans, etc. supposedly mimicking footage they have seen.

I think it is terribly upsetting, but I also wonder why the parents weren't censoring what the children were viewing, both online and on television.

I don't know how to make it a link since there are commas in the url so you'll have to copy and paste it.

I went to Tinyurl.com to make a shorter link, without commas.

CopyCat Deaths

That's horrible!

What I can say is this really isn't the full story. This child lives very close to me. They are hispanic, they watch the spanish news and it was replayed and replayed. He asked his dad why they killed that man. He said, because he was a bad man. This son then goes and hangs himself? Not with gallows or a rope, but with bedsheets? This isn't a copy cat, he knew the consequences. Sadly my guess is he was struggling with something and thought he was bad.

I guess my issue is, for it to be considered copy cat there just have to be some similarities. The only thing that was similar is that this boy hanged himself. Sadly it happens, children commit suicide. Would he of followed through if he hadn't witnessed it on tv? maybe not. This family is very poor, they do not speak very much english. It is all just very sad. But I really think the whole link to saddam is incorrect. It is how the news was getting the info across though.
