The Kitchen Table Literally?

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): The Kitchen Table Literally?

Ok I can't tell you how long it's been since our whole family actually sat at the Kitchen Table and had a "family dinner". I cook... they come get their plates and disappear. So last night I put my foot down. Dinner was ready and I set the table and told each person this table hasn't been used in months and from now on the plates stay on the table. It was amazing how much they all protested at first. Then after they stopped complaining and we all sat there a few minutes in complete silence... something happened that hasn't happened in months. CONVERSATION!! It was so wonderful. We talked about our day and what we did and funny stories about other people that came into our lives that day. It was wonderful. And guess what? They ended up saying hey lets do this again tomorrow. How cool is that? The dining room table really works.

Conversation the lost art!

Nothing better to give your children than the nack of knowing how to talk to others.

That is nice!

My kiddos are still young and the rule in our house is that you could only eat in the kitchen or at the table. Even Daddy has to follow that rule. He used to take his plate to the family room to watch his game. We had to have a discussion about that and we both agreed to certain things. Needless to say, we all still eat at the table.
