JEN THE BACHELORETTE

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): JEN THE BACHELORETTE
By Meltonmom on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 12:27 am:

I just "tucked in" my family (mostly hubby, kids in bed at 8) anyway, we were both disgusted by The Bachelorette. Just wondered if ya'll watched and if so, what are your thoughts?

I was embarrassed for her. I thought she made women look really bad (in general) not me, personally, because all season she wanted to be the absolute center of attention. She kept the man waiting and then she refused him, she could have refused him on the show and not kept him waiting for months for an answer. And if she was that fearful and had that many reservations, she never should have done the show in the first place. I felt really sorry for the guys, it seems she made fools of them on national television. And, I think the producers knew it was coming. I knew it was coming, I told Hubby she wasn't going to choose either one of them. But I was embarrassed for her because I thought the honorable thing to do would have been to tell them both when they proposed on the show and not leave Jerry hanging. In that way, she really made women look bad, dishonorable and indecisive. She should have never done the show if she had so much fear of getting hurt again. I would love to see JP and Jerry get together. I'll bet they both have some stories to tell. Did ya'll watch? Whadda think? M&M

I can't believe I watched it all that time and got nothing out of it!

I was embarrassed for her too, especially when she didn't have a reason for not accepting Jerry's proposal.

By Heaventree on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 08:49 am:

I knew she wasn't going to pick Jerry, as they introduced him they showed her two girlfriends sitting in the audience. They were both appauling but neither were smiling.

It was her choice not to choice either but it made for really dissapointing television. I'm glad I didn't watch the whole season. What a waste of time.

By Katiesmommy on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 10:08 am:

I think that is riduculous and this show has to go bye-bye for good!

By Meltonmom on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 10:36 am:

I agree. I don't think I'm gonna watch it again. I think I posted under the wrong category. I meant to post it under the one with Movies, Books, TV.

Sorry, ladies.

But I am interested in opinions out there because eventhough I am very married I think that as women we should be attentive to how we are portrayed on television. Jen made the successful attractive (matter of opinion, I know!) women look like cruel heartless dumpers. I felt what she and the show did to those men was borderline abusive because it was a live audience and there should have been some warning or taping, then editing, or something.....anyway, it got to me. I realize it is just a TV show but I really felt sympathy for these guys she drug through it.

I didn't watch this...was she ALLOWED to say yes or no to Jerry when he proposed? Or did ABC MAKE her wait several months later to decide? I'm not clear whose decision that was.

By Emily7 on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 12:16 pm:

I think the concept of the show is ridiculous & can't believe it has been as successful as it has been. I hope this will be the last one, I am sure there is something better that could replace it. Of course I have said that each time one of them ends.

By Breann on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 10:44 pm:

Kate, she didn't know what her answer was going to be when the original proposal was made. She told Jerry to hang on to the ring until she made sure that it was right this time.
So, fast forward a few months, she dumps him on live TV. I was heartbroken for him. I know he signed up for the show, knowing that he would most likely be one of the men who was dumped. But, to string him along like that was just sad :(
I was hoping that she would pick John Paul. But, after I saw the live "after the rose" show, I was glad that John Paul didn't have to deal with her anymore.
Hopefully we don't see her on the Bachelor/Bachelorette anymore. She's had her fair share of guys to choose from. Let's bring in someone else. There has to be another Trista and Ryan out there somewhere :)

Emily, the next bachelor starts in a few weeks. They showed the previews already. I can say that I won't watch, because it never ends like I want it to, but I know that I will end up being sucked into it. Just like Survivor and all the rest.

I am embarrassed to say I watched the last show and I was VERY disappointed.

This show is ridiculous and SO unrealistic! Why dont they have a true REALITY show. Something like 'This is Your Life, Like it Lump it' and follow a married couple thru their everyday blah life with kids and bills and bills and bills and a house thats average and sparsely furnished, struggling to afford groceries and shoes for their kids, minivan mom driving kids to school/football/band/taekwondo/swimming/skating rink/soccer, burning dinner, dad who is on business trips and never around to help or support mom/kids, mom too tired for sex let alone LINGERIE, and looks like heck at the end of the day, multi tasking going on such as = cleaning up dog poo from new puppy while at the same time handling a crisis between children talking on phone and cooking dinner....And lets not forget how we look after carrying and birthing babies. Now thats reality. ahhhhhh yeah-- why dont they do a show like that? A show called 'Making it last FOREVER' LOL! Because its not all about the picking and choosing/engagement/wedding. And then its not all about having a baby-- its about not screwing the kid up for the rest of his life once you have him.

People dont meet in LIMO's and formal wear just out of the hair and makeup dept for crying out loud. Can you tell I dont like this show?! ha

Rumors are going around that she didn't want to pick EITHER guy, and that was one reason why she was so despondent and upset when she and her friends went wedding dress shopping. What 'they' are saying is that she went to ABC and said, 'not picking either cause i am not sure' and they said to not turn both down but they would wisk her and Jerry off for a vacation so they could get time to know one another. Jerry and Jen went on the trip and she still didn't feel it for him and that's why she kept saying 'remember we decided to just be friends'.
it makes sense, but it could be really good spin too!

I never did like her. I only watched bits and pieces but EVERYTHING with her seemed so forced.
